Skoda Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I am gonna buy a Fabia Vrs, I have a question. The car has headlight washers but not the xenon headlights. The aftermarket headlights have halogen bulbs inside, so I am wondering if they ever sold these with the washers and halogen lights from factory? If somebody just swapped the headlights, I am fine with that, but if somebody tore out the oem xenons and put in these headlights, I am less fine with that. What do you think? The car is 2006, Blt engine…

Forum lore states that all cars with xenons had washers, I would imagine that washers were available as a cost option for non xenon cars though, someone will have a boring list saved somewhere to confirm.

Xenons are a nuisance because they get so hot they damage the reflector so not having them is ok in my opinion.

The only way to get factory fitted washers in the UK was to option the Xenon headlights from new - from memory about a £500 option, similar to the electric sunroof.

They never fitted or offered the washers with the Halogen lamps. Even at dealer fit level as the bumpers themselves are very different internally (to support the washer mechanisms)

There is one way of telling what your car would have come with as standard..

1.) do you have a headlamp levelling control inside the car by the headlamp switch? Xenon cars do not.

2.) what size is the screenwash bottle under the bumper? Xenon cars have a much bigger bottle - 5 litres

I wouldn't get too hung up on the factory xenons as even new their design is now very old and light output is only slightly better than good Halogens.

This is the car. Thanks for

the info. So somebody must have replaced the burned out oem xenons with the aftermarket headlights and fitted halogen bulbs….

Another thing that puts me off is that the car doesn’t run great. I mean it’s slow. I suspect worn camshaft, but then again the price is good and the interior and bodywork spotless

Ahh yes 100% non genuine aftermarket headlights there!

I didn't realise you were not in the UK, apologies. Italy I assume?

The vast majority of European vRS Fabias (it might even be all??) came as standard with the Xenon headlamps and the washers. Even the Race Blue "SE" models in Europe came with the Xenons as standard.

If you can find a set of new standard LHD Xenon headlights they will fit perfectly and they use the same wiring plug as the Halogens as well.

I’m from Serbia, and the car has been imported from Switzerland. I was kind of worried that it might have been in a collision, because, who would replace Oem xenons for this?! But the washers are working, so I guess they were replaced due to failure.

Id agree with this as well - If the previous owner went through what we went through with ours I wouldnt blame them for changing the lights !

Our beloved Honda Civic Mk8 had Xenons and they were a pain in the backside - I put in 3 ballasts 2 bulbs and every year at the NCT test either they were out of alignment or the headlight wash nozzles werent working.

My wife had a small mishap and we put 2 brand new genuine lights in and got a second hand bumper - Better lights and no more issues with washers, alignment or the flicker of death ...!
