Hi, driving home a week last Monday and the warning lights came on that the temperature was high.  It was in the red nearly 130. I pulled over and after a min or two parked, you could see the temperature coming down quickly enough. Engine bay was dry and all looked ok.  Nursed the car home and all ok. Coolant reservoir was warm to the touch.  Next day same happened again and when I checked the reservoir, it was stone cold.  Got the rescue out and car removed to Skoda garage.  Three days later new pump and timing belt replaced. Car is January 2018 so warranty out by nearly 10 months. However as FSSH on it, Skoda covered 50% labour and 70% parts so happy enough with that TBH. However, just concerned as pump and belt not due replacement till 120,000 miles.  Also I had a DSG issue in January, one week after warranty. Gears were only available for 2, 4 and 6. Turned out to be a clutch position sensor in the box, error code P0805. Skoda in fairness fixed it with just a €100 contribution from myself.    The sensor fix for the gearbox is covered for 2 years from January 2021 but with the car only having 88,000 km (55,000 miles),  I’m a bit concerned going forward with maybe other potential issues cropping up. Anyway, just thought I’d post this as an FYI.  I have the car since Feb 2020 and otherwise delighted with it. 

Where did you get the car from? Any idea about previous owner(s)? If it was a demo/rental/courtesy car, then chances are it hasn't had the care and love when being driven that other cars get!

It was a private purchase initially and came with a service pack also. Serviced on the button by Skoda dealer. They traded it in against a Hyundai after 18 months as it was too big.  I bought it then.  My own dealer can’t see if any warranty work was done prior to them doing any.  But I’m going to contact the original dealer to see if anything was done early days.

Servicing on the button is not much on a 3 year old car.    Is it a Wet Clutch DSG so oil changed at 40,000 miles?

Sorry forgot that. It’s the diesel 2.0 150bhp. The warranty work done in January was roughly at 40,000 miles and involved a draining and refilling of the oil

Did the Service Pack have the Haldex serviced on the button @ 30,000 miles and the Brake Fluid changed at 3 years?

I've heard the water pump issue is quite common.  Something about the pump itself being OK, but an electrically-controlled sleeve in there to regulate water flow?  A bit poor though.  I'd expect more miles out of a modern engine before needing anything like that.

My partners car has a normal mechanical pump, it has only done 15k and needs replacing as it is leaking! I would have expected a lot more than that from it!

Blimey!  That's appalling!  Which engine is that?  Presumably, it'll be covered under the warranty, though?

1.2 TSi Engine, unfortunately not, the cars out of warranty as its a 2016 model 🙄

That's shocking!  I hope they make a "sympathetic" goodwill contribution!
