Burning rubber smell(DPF?)

Featured Replies

I noticed when I turn off my car, there is strange smell and venilator is turned on. I think its DPF regeneration… so enyone know how much kilometrs or speed do I must doing for the car to complete the cycle? I do aprox 18 km on one way trip every day. Will it stop on its own or do I need to take long trip? Car is new and done only 600km, 2.0 disel DSG no vrs.
sorry for my english :)

I've not run a diesel for a few years but from the experience I do have 18Km would not be enough to complete the cycle. More likely, the exhaust system has only just got hot enough to start the cycle.

Try doing a run of about 40 - 50 Km, ideally at a steady speed 60+kph such as on a major road or motorway. That should clear it.

Yes it just needs a decent run,a friend of mine thought his car was on fire but I told him to give  it a decent run out and problem went away

18km journeys (about 11 miles) are too short for a DPF regen to complete.

If all your journeys are about that duration, then a euro 6d diesel is not suitable, as DPF will eventually clog up

I do about 40 km daily, and 100km at weekend. In avrage 15000-20000km a year.
It is strange that no indicator or light is showing that the car is doing dpf cycle.
i will try a long drive and see what happens.
