ICE Problems

Featured Replies

I know its generally considered a no no but i solved this problem with my boot mounted mp3 player by running the earth back to the fusebox instead of to the chassis in the boot. It probably shouldn't work but it did.

Just a thought' date=' but do you earth your amps separately or at a joint earth? Combined earths are supposed to be the way to go iirc. So the earth lead goes from each amp to a non-fused distribution block, and then to a single cable (the same size as the main power cable) to an earthing point. Also just out of interest, where abouts are you earthing the amps?

Heres a useful guide from Talkaudio, if you haven't seen it already Tracing Alternator Whine

Amps are plugged into a disty block and then onto the chassis within 15 inches from the amps. I've had a look at the Talkaudio thiny, and talking it as gospel means that the problem is with the HU, but having installed 2 seperate HUs, I cannot see that as being the issue. To put it mildly, i'm stumped.

Hello! No need to go to the UK for that i'll have look at it for you at RR, i might just know a thing or to about sound

No bother, Have a shot, it won't do any harm!

Already have 2 of them on the main amp! They help a whole lot' date=' but not quite good enough!

I had the same, seat belt bolt made very little difference.

What I did was to drill a hole in the boot floor near the light cluster. Dremmelled it until it was clear of all paint then put an M10 bolt though and a nylock nut and washer under the car to hold it nice and secure et voila, the noise went away. Seems drastic I know but it was all I could come up with. Just glad it worked

 I've tried moving the am cable to about 5 different points, none helping. The best I came up with was sharing a common earth with the HU and amps.

I tried that at the weekend, but it made the problem worse!

I'm just confused at this stage, as I had a similar problem with my last car (a 2001 Ford Focus) and was easily solved with an earth move!

At this stage I'm willing to spend money sorting it... (It takes a lot for me to do this )

How about making a custom earthing point for the h/u? If you don't mind a bit of butchery, cut the earth lead from the h/u and crimp on a new cable and run that directly to the chassis... Do you get noise if you don't use the amps? Can you put in the stock speakers and just try running them straight off the h/u?

I don't get any noise when everything but the HU is removed.

Sounds like something to do tomorrow evening! I'll let you know the results.
