Skoda Fabia MK4 Estate cancelled ?

Featured Replies

Or so I was just reading on Car Scoops.  Sorry can not link but maybe someone can Google / search and see if confirmed or not for production sometime maybe.

I hope it isn't cancelled. I'd love a new Fabia estate (if it's any good), otherwise I'm staying old school as the Mk2 and Mk3 estate variants don't appeal to me as much as the Mk1.

That's a shame...   We had a mk1 estate and it was great.  Really good packaging and loads of space for a small car.

I'm thinking about getting one for taking with me on the NC500, probably a 1.4 TDI or a 1.9 TDI depending on what budget, location etc. provides, or hinders.

we had a 1.9Tdi Comfort from new and did about 130k miles in it before we sold it.  The subsequent owner then put another 50k miles or so on it before finally started to give up the ghost.

That's good to know. I just need something that'll get me around a little bit and then spend the rest of its life as our Ikea-run load lugger

My next new car was going to be the Fabia mk4 1.5dsg estate.

I don't know of anything else yet that would be comparable.

Scala? I don’t know for sure. More of a question to answer your question.

I had a Mk2 estate that was fantastic and now have an Octavia. I was looking forward to a Mk4 estate.

As was I, if it was any good then I'd have bought as a replacement for my Mk1 when its time has come.

Such a shame that Skoda / VW Group could not have had the Mk4 Fabias Hatch & Estate with e-Tech 1.0 & 1.5 TSI's to allow the low emission kidology.

If MG Motors just First Register more EV's then the new Skoda Estate / Combi could maybe be produced.

Crazily you can buy a brand new electric MG5 estate for similar price to Skoda Fabia

This one is discounted to £20,900

Now if Skoda had started with a VW ID3, added the estate bit, and stuck a Skoda badge on it, then I would have been seriously interested, I was actually hoping to pick up a mk4 Fabia 1.5 DSG before they killed it.

So The Mk 4 Fabia is not available with the 1.5 engine?

After seeing that there won't be an estate I was thinking I might consider the 1.5 hatch.

Skoda will have nothing that suits me now.

There was chat of the 1.5 being in the Monte Carlo. Of course that’s not currently available, in the UK anyway.  Not read when it will be either. If you venture into the Mk4 Octavia area, you may remember the Sportline trim that was announced in April. That’s yet to be seen in the UK.

The Octavia is is bit too big for my needs (and garage).

The Scala is also a bit longer than the Fabia estate and probably coming to the end of its production.

With the demise of the Roomster , Yeti and now the Fabia estate(in Mk4 form) it seems that Skoda have lost any sort of small practical offering.

The Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq lack originality and style imo.

Seems these days, that if you don’t fancy SUVs/crossovers you are becoming limited in choice. Keep running my 5 year old Octavia, not that there is anything wrong with it

It's a fad that'll probably die out in a wee while, with any luck.

I don't think the 1.5 engined Fabia is being released until next year.

SUVs are a fad that’s been going on a while now, maybe longer than just being a fad.

Regardless, I'll stick with a "conventional" car.

Lets see in a few decades how you get on when easy in and easy out matters.

Seats higher from the ground or floor & roofs higher from the floor is not a bad thing.

Very true, George. I find the Fabia's height to be just right. From sitting within the car, I feel a little high due to having a relatively long back even with the seat at it's lowest position, but it isn't the worst feeling.

I get that crossovers and SUVs are the way forwards for those who prioritise accessibility first and foremost, but why should others have to be dictated into the type of car we are buying, but that's just marketing for you. :D

I think that makes sense, if it comes across right haha!

Made sense, I think?

  • 2 weeks later...

I came here after seeing this article which seems to confirm it.
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/fabia/356399/plans-new-skoda-fabia-estate-cancelled-czech-firms-focuses-evs

I did a *lot* of miles in Fabia Mk1 estates and was wondering about a newer one at some point, so it's sad to see this. 😞

SUVs are bad in that high cars are less aerodynamic (because resistance is proportional to frontal area).
I also suspect people like "higher" cars, oblivious to the fact that if *every* car is an SUV, no-one is higher than other car drivers.

However, the SUV style has the handy side effect for Electric Vehicle designers that they can stick a battery under the floor, which is a really good place to put a heavy weight. People are higher but they don't complain and indeed currently seem to like it.  So assuming there will be a lot of EV models in future, I think we're stuck with the SUV style...

I've yet to drive a Mk1 estate, but plan on purchasing a diesel one for taking with me on holiday and to keep as a load lugger until I cannot do so.

I think Skoda's decision to cancel the Mk4 estate may move customers with existing Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 Fabia estates to either the Scala (if that suits them) or to Dacia with their Logan MCV. The new Logan has yet to be released, but the last generation looks to be quite nice, especially for the bargain price. We've got a Sandero Stepway in the family and it runs well, so I hold out hope for Dacia's Logan.
