  • No... and if that was the case, surely all the directions would be wrong? For example, it shows the correct way (clockwise) around a roundabout. It's just this one particular thing that's wrong.

(Its funny you mention this, when i looked at mine yesterday i thought something was different, but couldn’t work out what. Now i know, mines the same as yours, just grey).

Heated steering wheel is part of the winter pack options.

Personally, I'm good with that. It would be a bit much if you ask me...

It seems that some vRS owners are receiving their cars with the heated steering wheel, but without ordering the winter pack.

 

Perhaps non-heated / red / black stitching is varying depending on availability...

Maybe it’s the sweetener for the delays we are experiencing. I will be so chuffed if mine comes with a heated wheel 🤞🏼

Yogi, given your bear must be completely run in by now; how much (if any) oil did it use in the first 1,000 running in miles please?

You're assuming I've checked... 😂

 

I opened the bonnet for the first time a few days ago to put screen wash in (that tank must be huge - although haven't needed to use it much until recently due to all the good weather this winter!). If the car doesn't tell me there's something wrong with it, I'll assume it's quite happy and so won't check. Except tyre pressures once every few months.

 

And before someone starts having a go... it's a not a classic Jag or anything like that - it's a modern car with a proven, reliable engine that's more than capable of surviving happily without me fussing over it unnecessarily.

 

Edit - oh, and I passed 2,000 miles this week too.

What oil are you putting in it?  0w-30?  0w-40?  5w-30?

 

I prefered it when all cars used Castrol GTX in a white tin whether they needed it or not!

Plate under the bonnet of the VRS calls for 0w20.

I was once badly bitten by my wife's Nissan.  Eventually got around to checking the oil and the dipstick was bone dry.  "Haven't you noticed any warning lights?" Says I.  "Oh, it's been saying something for quite a while when I start it but it was too small to read.  I just ignored it.". Quite.

 

A bit sensitive now.

It does sound like the car wasn't really to blame!

0W20 is used for the first fill in the factory, but a lot of dealers then replace it with 5W30 at the first and future services.

 

Many are now using 0w 30 FS.

Interesting.  Seems odd that a dealer would do this when Skoda have clearly indicated otherwise on the engine bay plate.  Wonder why?  Engine longevity or just to reduce oil consumption?

Or does it say VW508.00/509.00?

Yes it says both, definitely including 0w20 as well as the VW type numbers.

What Oil did your Skoda dealership use in your car? 

 

Are you saying garages are using 0w-30 ( VW504/VW507 spec ) on newer engines? Which gargages?

 

Both my cars ( 1.5tsi ) were serviced at franchised dealer in November - just checked the paperwork, both used 0w-20 as stated.

If i had a leased from Motability TSI / TDI built since 2018 and it was in for Servicing it would get the Recommended oil which is VW 508 00 / 509 00

If i had one i owned and a keeper i would not be running Long Life Oil, not Castrol / Quantum be getting oil changes other than fixed oil service regimes. 

 

You read the threads on this forum, you will see if you bother reading the threads after the WLTP certificated TSI and TSI's arrived with the VW 508 00 / 509 00 oil had Dealerships sell them VW 504 00 / 507 00 to top up and even used that at Services and then some were Serviced with VW 504 00 / 507 00 0w 30 FS III.  

 

As it is the VW 508 00 / 509 is Long Life Oil and the TDI's require Long Life oil.  

For fixed servicing on TSI's even after VW Group went to VW 508 00 - 509 00 0w 20 FS IV you can still do Fixed Servicing and use VW502 00.

At the risk of stirring the usual hornets nest I think you'll find that is pure conjecture by you.

 

Ive seen no hard evidence i.e. a written statement by Skoda (not just from UK customer service who give various confusing statements) or a higher souce as to what all cars are initially filled with, though its reasonable to assume that most (but not all*) now arrive with 508/509. 

*Some high power 2.0tsi variants need 504/507 and cannot use 508/509

 

My experience is that my dealer flat out refuses to tell me exactly what oil is used and I've not read many threads where posters know exactly what their dealer uses either or even ask.

 

My 2018 car has a slam panel label showing 504/507 for instance, iirc you argued in a past thread that it probably came with 508.00 however the senior tech at the dealer argued with me that 502.00 is the correct oil for my car, based on ElsaPro servicing sheet printed out by their computer. Skoda UK customer services added to the confusion by email later that 508.00 is the recommended oil for my car.
 

@xman  Which cars are these that have higher power 2.0TSI's & GPF's in the EU and can not use VW 508 00? 

Are those pre WLPT certificated 2.0 TSI's.

Your quote from me has a typo,   i meant WLTP certificated TSI & TDI's.   & not TSI & TSI's.

I believe its the 272/280ps engines.

 

Latest Superb manual now states use the oil specified on the slam panel sticker, if there isn't one then consult a specialist garage or use 504.00/507.00 oil 0w30. This applies to all engine variants (2021/11 onwards) not checked earlier manuals.

It will be interesting to know if that might be for non EU WLTP Certificated cars like in Australia.
