DSG question - possible new owner

Featured Replies

I’m considering purchasing a 2L diesel Superb, possibly with a DSG, moving up (?) from an Octavia 2.0 vRS manual.

How good are the DSG boxes? What regular maintenance is required to keep them in tip top condition? What ‘features’ should I be aware of?

TIA

They are very good.

Oil change interval if the wet clutch DSG is every 40,000 miles.

That's great, thanks very much.

In terms of 'features' they can be a wee bit jerky sometimes at low speed but it's nothing dramatic - just a little 'character'.. 😉

In normal daily use though, the DSG is quite remarkably smooth, and as others have said on here quite rightly often the only way in which you are aware that it's changed gear is the rev counter needle snapping from one point on the dial to another or the gear indicator in the binnacle ticking over.

Not entirely without its faults but the benefits - to me at least - far outweigh the drawbacks.

Keep it maintained properly & you shouldn't have too much trouble.

If it's of any interest, I went from a manual Octy vRS CR 170 to what I have now and find that the DSG suits the size and character of the Superb very well.

Good luck with your potential purchase - you'll find plenty of help and advice on here I'm sure.

I bought my first ever skoda/superb/dsg box/ last christmas I have been driving automatics for over 30 years and this feels much the same.

As a precaution I did a DSG oil change.

Mine is the 2012 168 hp and for a large roomy car it shifts.

would buy another

Do your own dsg oil change.

sorry no, paid someone who was experienced, I am new to this brand and DSG.

used local garage for last 30 years, he lets me buy my own parts and just charges for fitting.

I found the 18 inch themisto alloys a bit too firm changed to 17 inch westwood BBS split rims much more comfortable

That was a suggestion not a question . It realy isn't a difficult job but does require an investment for the first time, though still cheaper than a garage normally.
