MK2 Octavia VRS Blown Turbo

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have just bought a 2008 Octavia VRS and have been absolutely loving it however last week I noticed a considerable lack of power in the car and that the coolant was nearly down to the min line after being topped up about 1k miles ago

Brought it to my mechanic and he said the turbo is blown along with “water getting in to the internals”? Not sure what is meant by that.

Basically I am just trying to weigh up my options here, I know the car is old but I’ve only just got it.

Is it worth getting the turbo fixed even though there’s a possible coolant leak? Should I buy an entirely new engine? Or try to sell it to someone who would be more mechanically minded?

Ive about 6k put into the car already :o  willing to spend more if it guarantees to longevity of the car but at the same time need to draw the line somewhere

And feedback would be much appreciated :)

Is 6k together with buying price or just for repairs? If only for repairs, I guess another 2-3k for you will be no problem…

@Nosnx it was bought for 4.8k and the balance has been repairs/ additions

I’m not sure if I could afford another 2-3k bill, as I am only 23 :o

i recently put an induction kit on it, would that cause any issues that you know of? I have the diesel model

I payed 4 years ago £3.2k for my petrol 2008 vRS. For your price I would expect pristine condition and not the one with blown turbo and engine by your description..

To the losing power, if the problem started after fitting induction kit, look for air leaks.

The water in engine is not good sign and can be blown head gasket in better case, worse scenario crack in block or head.

@Nosnxhaha don’t even mention it, prices of used cars in Ireland are actually going up at the minute due to a shortage 😂 4.8k was considered cheap 😆

My mechanic did a pressure test and a block test and nothing showed up on either, think it’s worth getting a second opinion on it though before it’s written off.

if you were in my position what would you do? I was considering getting an entirely new engine for it

I would swap it for TFSI 😃 There is on for sale in classified.

On serious note, I would try to get 2nd engine and and make sure its CR and not PD…

What’s the difference? Sorry I have literally 0 mechanical knowledge

Different engine injection system. Regarded as a better diesel engine especially with extra pollution gear and dpf management.
