Is this my DV failing?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have a 2012 CAVE 1.4 twincharger, yesterday I noticed I was getting alot more "turbo like" sounds, right from the get go, and when I'd let off the throttle, I wouldnt get the usual small blowoff style noise that im used to.

Seems like there is excessive airflow/air escaping? I've checked all my air lines and everything seems good. Ive checked the control valve near the supercharger and it seems good.

Kinda seems like the Diverter valve off the turbo is letting all the air escape. Is there anyway of testing the DV? I've taken if off and looked at it but it looks fine i guess

Thanks guys

You don't need to test it, the ECU already checks it hundreds of times every second, if there were a problem on the high pressure side of the intake the engine would be in limp mode and your dashboard would be lit up like a Christmas tree.

never heard mine blow off (standard car) , is there an aftermarket dump valve fitted ?

Yeah standard. Not blow off like a regular BOV but when u hear the pressure bleed off after lifting off throttle. It’s really weird, performance is kinda fine, no engine lights or anything bad, just increased air rushing noise. It started yesterday after my partner apparently hit a speed bump really hard and damaged the bash plate underneath, but there doesn’t seem to be anything else damaged or missing etc.

I’d love to have a really good look at the intercooler but it’s behind so much stuff!!!

You have dislodged pipe somewhere, probably on the low pressure side of the intake.

Ok thanks! I’ll keep looking! I just had the entire air box out and couldn’t see anything odd, and that gave me a good view of other pipes , all look fine.  Hmmm

The boost hoses from the intercooler are quite close to the road under the bottom plate

Thanks mate. I think I’ll try and get the front bumper off to assess any damage around the intercooler. From the cabin, if definitely sounds like the whooshing sounds is coming from the left hand side of the car, near the firewall, but I’m also aware how the engine space can direct noise around and can confuse

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I found the culprit! After a hard hit (partner hitting a speed bump hard) on of the plastic tabs broke off the intercooler and out a small hole in the plastic pipe. Hopefully I’ll be able to repair it with some plastic weld

Nasty, I'm amazed that didn't affect engine performance or flag up the engine check light on the dash.
