VED

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Finally got my new Octavia iV VRS on Friday and love the car however.....

When I was speccing the car I specifically kept it below the £40 threshold so not to pay the extra £300+ VED fine each year for the next 5 years. I deliberately left off things like DCC, racing blue paint etc...

Going through the paperwork on Friday night I see Skoda have registered it at £40,470 which pushes me into the higher VED. I am so angry that I was never told this and the dealer say's it's up to DVLA what price band the car is.

Is this true, can anything be done to resolve this. In short I will be paying over £1,000 extra which I never budgeted for or wanted. The dealer say's nothing to do with them and not interested.

I too kept my order just under the £40k limit but dealer said any price rises (even on extra’s) up to delivery will count towards the revenue price so as I was just £300 shy and looking at 6 months plus delivery I thought best not to skimp, bite the bullet and have the car as I desired it.

I was kinda dreaming that our man Rishi might have increased the £40k threshold last week…………..It’s not fair that owners of £100k Tesla’s tearing the road up with their 0-60 in 2.5 seconds not only don’t pay the so called ‘luxury’ duty but don’t pay any standard VED either…….

Now now, don't be bitter. 😉

I'm sure that incentive is purely to encourage a FULL EV take up. 👍

Did the dealer charge you any extra on delivery to cover the additional first year VED ?

Doesn't look like it. Docs say Duty paid £0.00. First Registration Fee £55, Extra weeks No, Tax class 59 - Alt Fuel Car total OTR £39,993 on my final invoice. Like you said, if I had been told this would happen then I would have added all the extra's and bitten the bullet. It's just the shock of it and the fact they can do this and not warn you.

Curious, could you be reading that wrong inasmuch as the £39,993 looks to be the revenue price - where did you find the higher £40470 figure?

Hi,

It was on the confirmation of registration paperwork that the stealership gave me..

Im being nosey.  What did you have to pick to add nearly £4K of options to the price?

Winter pack (Heated front seats)

Rear camera with LED rear lights and dynamic indicators

Driver fatigue sensor

Blind spot detection

Travel Assist

Heads Up Display

Park Assist

CANTON sound system

Gave up DCC, Racing Blue paint (wasn't free at time of order) and a few other wee toys :) that I could have had since they registered it over £40K anyway.
