ACC Braking when overtaking

Featured Replies

Pretty sure a quick tap on the throttle pedal overrides the ACC non-undertake/overtake function. Seem to recall doing it in mine the other week; haven't had cause to do so recently.

Maybe in the UK but not here in Australia. My vRS does not do that 99% of the time. Only occasionally it will brake unnecessarily. It is just one of its many quirks. I have got used to giving it a pro

  • Just had mine in for software updates and they acknowledged there is an issue with the ACC but no fix as yet.

It does, but it gets tedious on long motorway journeys, I spend quite a bit of time on motorways and dual carriageways which is why its so frustrating. The, 'not knowing when it will start doing it' does not help either as it will start randomly on a journey, then you have to press every vehicle you overtake.

Yes, that is indeed tedious, especially if it is every vehicle you overtake. Thankfully mine is now OK after the KPH/MPH fix I had in early September; yesterday drove 250+ miles on dual-carriageways and motorways with no issues whatsoever. Hopefully they can sort everyone else's very soon!

By then the event has already happened and the vehicle following too close behind gets an awful amount closer or someone panics because they see your brake lights. Even if you learn this instinctively how about when your wife is, for the first time, experiencing this.

Skoda have no excuse but perhaps the solution is for a rear end accident to happen and the innocent driver to be prosecuted for brake checking a vehicle carrying a dash cam when in fact the car got frightened. Maybe then Skoda will take this seriously. To be fair to Skoda and their rotten software I also experienced this on a Toyota. So much for self-driving cars eh?

VAG say there is currently NO fix for the adaptive cruise problem.

Mine has been in recently for all the available updates but nothing for the cruise.

First motorway journey after updates it braked for EVERY car I tried to pass on the return journey NONE.

It's much worse being inconsistent as you never know which way it's going to go.

The VW Group have to spend 9 billion Euro, Dollar or what ever to bring Software and Tech in-house to have things as bad as they are.

It's a 9 billion roadmap, they're not spending it all right away. And also it's not that much considering how much software development costs these days.

$9Billion is Just a drop in the ocean & a 2019 figure on what THEY ARE TO SPEND, which is nothing compared to what VW group paid in fines for the software that they had developed and that they  bought in previously to have the Defeat Devices they wanted.

Contractors do leave VW Group because they are always trying to screw down the costs of everything.

(VW dumped chip suppiiers quicker than others and they were already demanding cheaper than other manufacturers and the chip suppliers started supplying others quicker when the demand picked up.  Vorsprung Durch Technik.  VW Needs to learn to stop taking the pith with New Technology as it advances.)

VW Group will actually blame the software developers and providers for illegal ECU's / Software where it was them that bought it in and used it having been made aware that it was illegal.

VW group get left in the lurch often with component shortages even like with interiors and materials as they say they punt suppliers but the truth is suppliers abandon VW Group.   VW Group do drop suppliers after they have had them increase staff and production and want them to be the supplier for VW and not others, then try screwing down the costs and profits of the suppliers while VW Group can increase their profits.

Software development is expensive you have to poach the best people from other companies, and the best developers have been at it a long time and can have errors and faults and losses,

VW Group have a long way to go until they get to be up there with the people that can do things right.

Lots of the best Engineers & Developers, designers etc will not work for VW Group because like with the Deafeat Devices they will blame Minions and the top people the Engineers Engineers that know everything know nothing and do not go to jail and Engineer or 2 do,

selectively deaf dumb and blind in the Board Rooms.

The issue is that any software errors and coc-kups can be a risk, but VW Groups are in Vehicles.  Vehicles driving on roads with humans in them and around them.

From the first link.   Hits the nail on the head!

Interesting:  https://www.focus.de/auto/news/220-000-autos-allein-in-deutschland-massive-software-probleme-vw-ruft-alle-golf-8-in-die-werkstaetten_id_25166295.html.

In English, according to Google Translate:

Massive software problems: VW calls all Golf 8 to the workshops

Because of persistent software problems, Volkswagen is bringing around 220,000 Golf 8 models to workshops in Germany alone. A software update should now solve the problems.

The car manufacturer Volkswagen is asking the workshops to update the software for the latest model in its Golf bread and butter range. Because the Golf 8 to be produced in the future received new hardware and software elements, the copies already sold should also get new software installed, said a VW spokesman on Wednesday. Among other things, the Wolfsburg-based company wants to improve voice control in the car.

Since the start of production, the Golf 8 had problems with the significantly expanded software and electronics features compared to the previous version, which did not work as smoothly as initially thought. Last year VW called the cars to the workshops because of malfunctions in the electronic emergency call assistant.

Unclear whether this applies to Golfs outside Germany or, of course, Skodas.

VW Group has a new CEO from the new year as the Skoda CEO takes over.  The departing CEO can maybe get a grip of VW,s Software Development when he takes charge of that.  Or maybe not seeing as he he as not got a grip while in overall charge now.

hi,

I know quite an old thread but experiencing the same problem with an Octavia 2021 I recently purchsed. Is there any solution to this problem?

Yes, this is fixable by software updates. Your local dealer should be able to do it for you - and, if bought as a Škoda Approved car, should have been done before purchase . If from an independent seller, then there may be a charge if outside the three year warranty.

Mine, fixed ages ago, now gets it right 99% of the time with only the very occasional ’moment’. In the meantime, a tap on the throttle will release the ACC and allow you to pass the vehicle. I find that the easiest workaround.

Add last para.

Yeah it sometimes gets a little addled if you're in traffic on a motorway and you're on the inside lane and it's moving and the next one is slower or stationary, it has on a couple of occasions disliked it on a sliproad where my lane is empty but the next lane over is stopped, I just put my foot on the throttle and override it.

I've noticed if I pass a car on the inside which is waiting in a turning lane the ACC puts the brakes on, even when you're past it. Now when I see a car turning off into such a lane ahead I cancel ACC for a while until I'm past
