Tinny sounding tweeters

Featured Replies

I have had my Octavia from new since 2017 and I am happy with it apart from the stereo, or more accurately the tweeters in the top of the doors. Does anyone else think they are very shrill? So has anyone replaced them with better units and if so are there any simple replacement units that virtually slot in. I am happy to get my hands dirty but I hate modifying vehicles so they cannot go back to standard if necessary. Any help would be great. Thanks

every car i have owned  since i was 17  i have upgraded the audio ...  the scout ATM  will soon be due for  all speakers  to be up graded ..( apart from the  1975 ford xb falcon    the 351 V8  provided the music )

I was quite disappointed in the audio quality when I bought my Octy, more so as the road noise is terrible and I have to turn it up 🙄
I looked at upgrades online, I couldn't find anything that would keep the OEM appearance (I didn't want to buy components and mount the tweeters on the dash)

I coded in Skoda Surround & Virtual Subwoofer, this made the sound a little better, it is certainly worth looking at as it might give you the adjustment you need.
In the end I opted to fit an old subwoofer that I had lying around to gain some depth, with some adjustments to the Bass/Mid/Treble, I have balanced out the tiny sound enough to live with.

So how did you code in the surround etc? I realise by VCDS, are there any posts with an idiots guide?

They're tweeters; listened to in isolation they're bound to sound shrill and tinny. Assuming you can adjust them like this, try setting more bass and/or less treble.

You can use VCDS or others use cheaper phone software/dongles.

I have VCDS so followed this guide, you will need to do a soft reset of the head unit after coding (hold power button in).

Enable Skoda Surround and Virtual Subwoofer (NOT for CANTON) Menu only appears on MIB2 cars

1 - Select Control Unit 5F

2 - Select Long Coding (Select 1 from top menu not 0)

3 - Select Byte 11

4 - Activate Bit 2 (Sound System Internal Individual)

5 - Access Media tab, then click Settings – Sound and tick the new boxes

Ah ok, I only have an Amundsen + installed  ---  thanks for your info, it will maybe help others!

Ta!

I would also say that Skoda Surround is also broken in anything earlier than 0478 on the firmware.  Latest Amunsden SOP4.x is version 0480.
