I read 3.6l but want to double check it

That normally would be your starting point. 3.5Lt

After draining properly with a hot/warm engine, refit drain bung & fill.

Start engine, wait for oil light to go out. Let it stand for a few minuets, then check the level. Top up accordingly.

You did fit a new oil filter?

What oil are you using?     Prolife 5W-30

Service fill is listed as 4.3L by Comma.
As above, stick 3.5L and go make a brew while it settles... check and top-up.
One thing I would say, if it is the same engine as the Golf Mk6  (I think it is), the oil can take some time to drain down, so be patient and top it up slowly.

I use a suction pump from Lidl to get oil out, only takes 5 minutes when warm and pumps it straight into an empty container so no mess to clear up and saves taking the undertray off.

Is the suction pump electric or hand operated, I have not seen one in Aldi before.

Usually plenty in Lidl, about £12, crocodile clips from battery, oil wants to be warm not up to full temperature.
