2nd hand rear race blue vrs bumper

Featured Replies

Evening all,

So somebody has hit the rear of my pride and joy.  I have owned her from new and looked after her like a baby.

I am trying to find a 2nd hand rear race blue VRS bumper.  I could get it painted as there is no physical damage to the bumper but at £640 for a decent job I’m exploring other possibilities.

Living on the Wirral and looking for decent scrap dealers with stock.

Thanks

Steve

Maybe get a few other quotes. Sure you could get a bumper but the quality of the paintwork on that could be questionable.  Plus, you’re still going to have to sort the rear 1/4 as you can see paint damage just above the panel gap.

When some helmet scratched my driver's side door, the whole door needed doing and I did it through Skoda themselves. I can't find the invoice, but that was around £500 for the whole door.

I got a quote off chipsaway, but they didn't seem happy doing such a large and deep scratch.

The only problem with getting a 2nd hand bumper is it may be a different shade of blue (even though it's the same colour). Be it from the mix when the panels were sprayed to the sun damage on both your car and the replacement part.

Only other option would be to look at your insurance and see if they are able to offer anything. Just need to see what the T's and C's on your policy is, plus all the excess charges.

Get some other quotes thats not over 600 quids worth of work

99.9% of that would dissapear with flatting, compounding and polishing leaving just a tiny touch up job to do, once dried & hardened that could be made almost invisible by the same process but in minutes not hours.

Had something similar on an older car and found that 90% of what appeared to be damage was just paint transfer from the other vehicle.

I was surprised but was able to scratch it off with my nail. Ended up polishing it out myself and it looked a lot better.

Have you checked this? It’s hard to tell from the picture of the damage is down to primer or just paint transfer in places.

Its just the clear coat that is scratched aside from on the top corner, the giveaway is the white colour.

OK it could have been sideswiped by a white car but I know where I would put my money!

Thanks all. The paint has been removed.

I do a good detail on the car each year but this was a challenge. Although doesn’t look bad from a distance I know it’s there so not sure if I should just get it done properly.

what’s everyone’s thoughts?

@Bowiesst That’s a great effort! Can’t tell you’ve had a swipe at all from any of those pictures.

Did you have to use a paint touch up kit or did you find it was mostly paint transfer from the other vehicle?

Looks champion 👍

I would say that you have skipped or rushed through a couple of the flatting & polishing stages especially where you have touched in, it can't really be seen in the photo & won't show when its shiny but as the surface sheen is removed it will look flat, describes most of the scratches etc I had to deal with on mine.

I have been meaning to redo mine for the last couple of summers. You should ideally wait until the touch in paint has fully hardened.

I agree JR. I’ve been using my chipex kit but I think I need to redo it. Could really to with something to apply the paint better. Tempted to get a model spray gun to apply a clean layer of paint on her.
