USB DAB Dongles

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Just following on from a discussion I was having in another thread and thought I'd put up to general consensus. Hope this is allowed.

I have recently changed stereo to an android unit which didn't have DAB. I bought a windscreen mounted aerial and the reception is OK in towns but anywhere in-between it is ropey to say the least.

The Octavia built in aerial is I believe in the windscreen and there is a cable for it behind the glove box.

Has anyone connected the usb dongle to the built in aerial using a Fakra to SMA cable?

The aerial is in the rear glass on the hatch lid

Yeah, my car already has the standard DAB antenna on the rear window.

Would that contraption work with that or is that to enhance the windscreen mounted one I bought.

Also having a look at that, I'm sure the 12v power supply goes into my new head unit.

A little confused by it.

That contraption is for use on vehicles that only have the standard FM/AM antenna fitted without DAB.

As for enhancing the stick on DAB you also have i would probable say it wouldn't really help but without trying it is hard to say.

If you want to wait a few weeks, i have ordered my head unit, DAB dongle and the Fakra splitter to try and use the existing DAB connection so will be able to tell you if that way works instead of having to install a stick on DAB antenna.

It just needs a 12volt power supply so where you take it from is up to you but if it was me I would probably look at taking it off the ignition feed to the head unit so it is only powered up when the head unit is on.

Cheers Wagster, I'll check back in a few weeks see how you got on.

I did this with the Fakra cable. It's night and day compared to the stick on one from the windscreen.

It was this one I bought from Amazon.

Eightwood Fakra to SMA Cable Fakra"C" Male to SMA Male Cable RG174 15cm 6inch for Fakra DAB Aerial GPS Antenna Fakra GPS Modul Tracking Antenna GPS Navigation System GPS Receivers

Plugs into the black DAB antennae behind the globe box then screws into the USB dongle.

Works absolutely fine using the existing DAB fakra connection.

Do you have a link to the one you used?

The link that Lamont posted a few minutes ago is all you need, all you need to do is google Fakra C Male to SMA Male and buy one. You could buy this one if you want Fakra C Adapter Plug to SMA Male GPS Antenna Extension Cable RG316 Pigtail : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools which is cheaper than the Lamont link.

It only needs to be 15cm long as you get the extra length you need to connect to the factory DAB connect by the length of the USB lead from the head unit.

For the DAB dongle you just google DAB+ USB adapter and then buy one like below at a price you are willing to pay. You only need the adapter but the kit comes with the sticky on aerial that you don't need to use.
