LPG install day 2

Featured Replies

Forgot the digital camera. Anyway - not much to really take photo's of. :D

Progress made so far:

Electrics wired in to headlight wiring. The switch for the LPG controls fit nicely on the door to the little flap to access the OBD plug, so thats about the neatest way to fit it without drilling out big holes in the dashtop itself. :)

LPG guage installed between two of the blanked buttons in the ASR switch row. Had to trim off the edges of the buttons next to it as the guage was a few mm wider than the button it replaced. :D

Still need to find somewhere for the filler cap though.... I think the last resort os going to be on the middle of the rear bumper sadly.... Wish I could put it in the boot but sadly that's not allowed. (I guess I can see why)

Just gonna have lunch now, and then do the easy bit - running the 6mm copper fuel pipe and the wiring under the car. :)

Last job of the day - find an LPG garage. ;)

Nice one  - I reckon you will have yours 'done' before mine even gets to the fitters

Hi Jason

Quite a few cars have the filler just under the bumper on the to the side on the offside with no cutout so bumper reamins intact. Any posibility of mounting it there?

Chris

Must admit I'm tempted to get my 'filler' fitted where the trailer hook would go if it were allowed (albeit under the car rather than sticking out ;)) - nicely out of the way/sight and near the tank too so should be a good spot for it :)

Just finished laying 6mm copper pipe from the engine to the tank. Figured the best way to do it was to just wrap it around the exhaust pipe - saves on clips.

 - at least I hope that was a joke :o

On my car there appear to be a spare set of clips next to the brake line(s) - dunno if it's wide enough for the pipe etc but if so that could work really well?

you could have connected the copper pipe to the lpg tank then run it to the front

and just let it hang down and drag on the road. it would then make a good earth

and get rid of any static electric that may build up.

 I was hoping for some "WHAT!!?? " replies! Damn. Yeah it was a joke. Ran three lengths down the car - 1 fuel pipe, 1 loom for cut off on tank, and 1 wire for guage in the dash. (signal one)

Mate is currently drilling a 70mm hole in the side of my car, so I've retreated to the office to hide..... ;) No WAY was the guage going to fit anywhere on / under the rear bumper as its too "round" - flattest bit is in the metal panel about 6" to the "7.30" direction of the original filler cap. Should look fine in my opinion.

I had to ask myself if it was a joke or not, lol.

Keep up the good work fella.:thumbup:

Well - we're now 90% of the way there. The problem (not really an issue for me) was that the phone kept going which kept disturbing the work, plus they were also trying to get a pug 306d running.... so out of 8 hours my car probably only spent 4 or 5 being worked on. However today all electrics were laid and plumbed in (except my guage) fuel line laid and plumbed in eah end, 70mm hole DRILLED IN THE SIDE OF MY CAR (forgot the camera for that! was funny!) and the gas filler cap is installed and bolted to that. Now my vag come port flappy tray, has a big switch gaffa taped to it (temp) and I flick the power to on, then flick the rocker cover and it lights blue and I get a very audible CLICK from the valve on the tank. Shows everything is working well in that respect. :)

Just need to get some 8mm copper from it down through a grommet in behind the wheel arch and back under the car and through the correct hole back in below the tank.

All in all, its not been a job done totally by any book, but its a real nice job and everything is well sorted, solid, and neatly done. And everything kept away from the exhaust - found a nice way of loosening off the exhaust heat shield in one place to get all wiring and fuel pipe over it - very convenient.

Sounds like good progress under the circumstances

If you are able to take a snapshot of especially the filler location that would be great, already quite happy with the tank location etc as that's just gonna be spare wheel well anyway :D

Must bring a tape measure tomorrow or wait till the weather clears up so I can do the measurements :)

Your wish is my command - not going out in the rain though - easier to just open the window a sliver and get a quick snapshot before the rain started blowing in.

Can you spot it?

They're just my "track wheels" - been on the car since Castle Combe as the semi slicks are pretty good on the road, just need to take care on the really wet days.... like today. :o:rolleyes:

Watch this space regarding wheels. ;) (old 17s on ebay)

Cheers  - don't blame ya for staying indoors, it's about the same over here :D

'fortunately' I'll be playing indoors for a few more hours before screaming off *speed limits obeyed of course* to home to pick up SWMBO so I can drop her at her job, then to return home & collapse ready for the week :o

perhaps colour code cap an idea possibly??

I might colour code the cap alone. That would be fairly easy to do. :)

:P :P

That's gonna be tricky now - less soot :P

I've got a headstart on my car being black + I drove it through todays 'sunny' weather, spray from the rear tyres was going over the roof  - I really must fit those rear mudflaps back on :D
