the truth about electric cars

Eye witness in car being ovetaken then GPS on car and phones and all the information from the ECU will tell the tale of the vehicle and occupants last journey while alive. Now it is not just the wealthy that can have very fast cars not that it ever has been, but now for under £6,000 you can get a very quick EV and maybe with suspension, brakes and tyres just needing a bit of work and a MOT or even cheaper fixed / parts and a snide MOT. Garage staff doing road tests of very quick cars might well be a liability and should require more than just a driving licence and the standard test..

The Spanish Traffic Officers should be able to get approximate speeds from lengths of skids etc and as you say car and phones gps.

Such a sad end to two young men who were great footballers but apparently more victims of RTAs. Another theory is they hit a wolf or deer which are common in this area. Hopefully all drivers wi become more circumspect of driving hazards.

@wyx087 you 'liked' the Johnny Smith video of the Tesla he bought at auction. MOT failure car needing a few bits and pieces and a ticket. Much cheapness and with 'insane mode" called that with this dual motor car because insane not to buy this with Free Tesla charging and that ability to blow away the Corsa, Fiesta and Type R kiddies. Insure in your mum's name. PS. How many more like that are kicking around waiting to be the next fast food delivery vehicle to replace their e-bike,?

Even the 60 kwh, P60 ?, is Group 50 insurance so even doing the adding a oldie on the insurance i imagine insuring a Tesla S would nit ve cheap, like many of those high CO2 cars and their VED the insurance and tax per year will be as much as these ten year old performance cars cost to buy.

Miss my Jaaag type S but several big negatives such as running costs and fear of something going wrong which make continuing to run economically difficult.

Despite that still looking for a big performance rat car ! Lotus Charlton would be my dream but they are rarer than dragons teeth.

Your not insured. You have insurance for anpr, you just take mum or dad or step parents car. They are sitting there, take the phone or key . Was nobody here ever young and went joy riding or have kids that did. It is like England must be a while different country from the rest of the UK. Car d!cks knock about in BMW M3 or M5,s and no licence. Locally i20 N,s seem to be flavour of the month for some with a new licence. Not N lines.

We use to get stopped by the police sometimes more than once I a week. Issuex a HORT to produce documents to local police station, licence, insurance, MOT.

Whether on Fizzies or ex police Dunstall tuned Norton Commando, 0 to 90 in 9 seconds. Never got stopped in cars unless it was an accident or speed stop or the like.

Throw the book at non insured, attachment of earnings fines or up to 6 months in prison would like to see more off though we need the prison places of course.

Wow, are you admitting to being a law breaker then, think about how your actions might have accidently ruined some poor families life if the worst had happened 😨

Gosh, it looks as if the Scots are the bad boys then after all 😀.

I can honestly say that I never hid behind my parents insurance, I have always had insurance in my own right and speaking of which, I have just discovered while looking at changing my car for something a little easier to actually get in and out off, that my current provider is no longer offering any car insurance, so once current policies expire, everyone has to find other providers 😒.

Only a couple of months left to run so will delay changing car until then I think.

We are all law breakers either deliberately and or sometimes accidentally.

Cars are very good these days, like a nagging mother in law, if one is one or more mph over the sped limit.

On my son's insurance as it seems to reducecyhe premium. He is on one of my car's insurance and that adds quite a bit to my premium but it gives him a choice to balancecthe miles on his pcp for his car and it means I can have a sherbert and he can drive me home in my car.

But always try to conform to insurance rules as being able to drive is a key part of my job.

Police and Dept of Transport need ever better systems to ensure all drivers and vehicles on the road road are properly insured, taxed and MOT'd.

I think not somehow, I want something easier to get and out of and certainly not something that I have to add extra infrastructure for, assuming the HA would even grant me permission for in the first instance. I'm currently unaware of any other HA tenant running an electric car with a home charger, or even having an electric car and using public chargers, on my estate.

Most EVs are SUVs and quite roomy.

Charging EVs is improving at a pace with couple of thousand being added per month and more competition on pricing. I occasional charge at relatives using by 3 pin plug and we share the cost saving over public charging ie I will pay then say 30p per kwh and they make money and I save bh paying half what public charging would cost.

Refineries are closing in the UK and petrol station are and will increasingly shut down as their customers convert to EVs.

Latest SMMT stats show EV sales continue to grow and look on target to hit 28% for BEV whilst pure petroldm nake up less than half the rest and diesel continue to head to oblivion in new car sales. Hybrids, particularly plug in hybrids with largish batteries capable of doing daily commutes purely in EV mode.

Went to IKEA in Bristol which has an under store car oark.God on could smell and taste the ICE pollution was horrible and when you are with a one year old child one thinks of those terrible cars carsnogines in that air one is breathing in. Sooner we get rid of these cancer promoting vehicles the better IMO.

Can you name me one EV that I as 6ft 4" tall driver could drive comfortably and still have space behind me for another 6ft 4" person to sit in comfort, and I have 3 of these tall people to allow for? The car also now needs to higher off the ground than my Superb to make it easier for me to get in and out, also not costing an arm and a leg to buy, as I at 76 this year would not get credit option.

Don't discount ICE yet, I bet it will fossil fuel still be in plentyful supply in another 50 years and electric cars might not still be thing then.

Ah yes. That one. My brain didn’t connect the dots.

But it’s far from normal. £10k do get a very usable second hand EV for everything on this small island though.

£18k for <50k on odometer

Still in battery and drivetrain warranty.

2.3p/kwh charged at home 7p/kwh at 3mi/kwh.

That means 200 miles day trips = £4.60

Of course, this cheapness requires charging at home.

OK, I'm only 4'22", but I've yet to find an SUV (hydrocarbon or Scalextric) that I find easier to get in and out of than a Superb. I can say that a Kia Niro (EV) will not let me sit behind myself comfortably.

Again, the brain did not connect the dots, see other my other posts for more information. Checking the dimensions shows these to be worse for my requirements than the Superb anyway as it is lower, not higher, thus making it even less suitable.

Funnily I do not find a Superb easy to get in and out of. Wide sills. My observation over last 150 miles motorway drive. Some Tesla drivers are cheeky barstewards for undertaking. We are all going the same direction and what ever is slow on the inside lane we are all passing. Tesla drivers are the new BMW drivers.

There are so many cars that a passenger with legs can not sit behind a driver even if they are not tall. The driver that is. But then many do not need to carry more than 2 adults. If you do need to have 3 full size people or 4 as passengers than you can look see what gets used as plated Taxis, Airport transport etc and they will usually have the space. This applied to EV,s as well. Sometimes just not the space for 4 and 4 suitcases and 4 carry on bags. For that maybe an estate car is the solution.

It would be good to list all your requirements when you pose a question.

My linked vehicle satisfies your requirement in the post I quoted.

If you didn’t want it answered, simply don’t ask pointless questions.

Yeap. MY Scenic.

Car of the year 2024.

Rear space of a similar spec to a superb reckon.

Synthetic fuels hopefully.

There will be a few historical cars knocking around but EVs, as they are becoming already, are so much cheaper to own that ICE cars one would have to be certifable to choose to run ICE vehicle.

If it was not for Green Flash registration plated there are so many cars I would have no idea were BEV,s. BMW,s but BYD,s now and SUV,s in Black the I still can not see which manufacturer they are from.

Cubic capacity overall with seats down is similar, but not as long so step ladders would not fit, and car sits 30mm lower than the superb and rear leg room and indeed front leg room seems to be smaller as well, so that does not fit my requirements.

Even synthetic fuels, but still don't think that normal fossil fuels will that hard to get hold off, and TBH, I still think BEV will not be around in the numbers that you all seem to think they will be. I say that there is there is still a very high chance that the BEV scene will be die out once the real truth comes out, in much the same way that diesel fell from grace once more research was done into the whole diesel thing. It could just be the folk still clinging to the BEV concept that might be certifiable in the future, time alone will give us all the answer.

Because of what?

BEV need to cheat because?

On the other hand:

You are right about the Superbs wide door sills, they are also quite deep, which makes the seat quite low. However if you have long legs, then that is not normally an issue. I do have long legs , but my problems is that those legs are getting a bit stiff as is my back as I get older, which makes it rather painful at times getting down low enough to get in and if I have to park close to a kerb on the drivers side makes it almost impossible for me to get out again.
