Battery Change - Radio code required???

Featured Replies

Hi

Looks like it’s going to have to be a battery change for my Mk2 Octavia VRS, sooner rather than later.

I know the radio code question has gone around a lot but……
The question I have is, my radio is a Skoda original radio, but not the factory fitted one, it’s an upgraded one done by the previous owner.
It’s a Columbus.

Should I be okay swapping the battery out and not need the radio code, or am I going to run into an issue?

TIA

From recollection, the car can store other codes than for just the OEM radio so you should be okay.

If that's wrong then don't hate me! 😉

Many thanks John, here’s hoping!

I can only say that on my Bolero-equiped one, it didn't. If you were really paranoid about it, you could get a 'battery maintainer' which keeps the voltage up for a while, and that should work, provided you don't  make the mistake of trying to start it.

Shouldn't need it. I had a later vw head unit in a mk5 golf and it remembered it following initial installation when changing battery.

If you are worried get a solar charger for cig lighter port or rig up clips and extension wire to keep 12v to one of the two batteries throughout change.
