iPod People in 2021. Make Yourselves Known.

Featured Replies

That title even confuses me a lot. Do I need to make myself known... to myself? Anyway, in this modern world of "yer smartphone can do everything fur ye" I still keep my Video iPod around for one simple reason. I like to listen to my music without people phoning me as I listen to it. It's a big gripe of mine. I had an 8GB iPod Touch 2nd Generation (still do) that I got as a present in 2008 but I opted for an older 30GB 5th generation iPod Video since I was only listening to music and I could get one with more space due to my massive iTunes library and my head unit (Alpine something or other) is only compatible with an iPod or a CD since I took my Kenwood one out due to a spate of burglaries in my area.

So anyway, do other people use these still? :)

i use an I-pod nano 5G for music. Use it on the push bike and motorbike, and generally. Don't want to use a phone for music as a) memory not big enough and b) why drain the battery ? It worked fine in my 2018 superb thro the USB aux input - but "device not recognised" in my 2021 superb IV. V annoying - to the point of would have seriously considered ano car if i had known it wouldn't work. searching this forum now for best alternative options.

A Nano is a good choice. I get a "device not recognised" through my aftermarket Kenwood KDC-BT640U in my Fabia but the old Alpine unit I had before was designed specifically for it. Sadly it is the march of progress and I, for one, don't like it. :)

Yes. I still have one in the car. Think it’s an 80gb version, but has run out of space in the last year or so. I use it as I prefer listening to constant music while driving rather than someone talking nonsense if I use the radio.

30GB for me. I don't even have the antenna connected in my Fabia for such a reason. :D

You may enjoy Focus mode on iOS now, as you can set your phone so nothing comes through (except the people you add to a list). So you could make a Focus Mode, (Away) or (Shower) Or (Running) and listen to your music, in peace.

I'm long away from iOS, with my last being an iPhone 5S circa 2016. I like to keep my owned music and my phone separate due to storage constraints too. :)

I have come to a solution using means of compression to 192KB/s until I can get one of those solid state kits that seem quite a popular upgrade over the hard drive.

My old iPhone was giving grief for a while and Santa brought me a new one for Christmas. This one has 1tb of storage so is easily holding all my tunes now and connects to the car just as happily as the iPod (still connected).
I’ve employed the above tactic while driving and the only thing that will come through is a call from either my wife or kids.

I... err, opted for something a bit more old-school for call blocking...

Perfect as long as you carry a bic pen or a pencil incase of emergencies.

Yeah, still use one through a big pair of cup headphones when I'm on the tractor. The iPod fits in my top pocket better than a phone does, so I don't need a trailing cable.

They're tough too, at least compared to a smartphone (wouldn't be hard). I can confirm as mine has suffered a few moments of idiocy in my time. Hard drive is still good too. Screen has a lot of dead pixels, but replacement screens can be had IIRC.

Yeah, mine's one of the smaller ones, not sure what model it is, I found it. It hasn't got a hard disk, just solid state memory.

My 4th gen iPod Touch (8gb) has finally died. It now turns off as soon as you unplug it, even though it shows the battery as charging/fully charged.

It lasting 10+ years is somewhat impressive though. End of an era as now all my music will fit on my 128gb phone, so it's died at the right time.
