What are the MK4 improvements over the MK3?

Featured Replies

I know someone with a MK3 who drove a MK4 for one day and they said it seemed quieter - less diesel engine noise.

Any other improvements?

It's more aerodynamic, so it uses less fuel and has less wind noise. Matrix lights are pretty cool to have. Interior looks way better. Wheels are bigger so if you go for R17-R18 you have thicker sidewalls which should increase comfort.

I do not understand your logic about the wheels. Bigger wheels mean lower profile tyres and less depth in the sidewalls and less comfort.

Yeah I'm puzzled by that, too. Needs more explanation.

He may be coming from the 19s on the VRS , speccing an 18 may be more comfortable. I have to say my 19s are more comfortable on this suspension than the 18s i had on a MK3. Overall the ride is super smooth and passengers have commented on this . That said i had 17s on a superb courtesy car and it was really good, big balloon tires.

The MK4 might have an improved suspension.

If you have R17 wheels on both MK3 and MK4 then MK4 has more rubber, because the sidewalls are larger.

From what I have seen on here I don't think that there are many if any redeeming features on the Mk4. It seems to be pretty much an unmitigated disaster for Skoda.

I think that they're trying to be too clever for their own good and they're failing quite spectacularly.

I seriously question the validity of the motoring media/press reviews of the vehicles from all of the software issues and reliability issues highlighted by thousands of customers across the UK. From all of the faults and complaints I'm wondering if the reviews were "sponsored" by Skoda to avoid a certain a certain word to get these awards and outstanding reviews that the Octavia has been receiving by the motoring press/media.

I won't be making a purchase for these very reasons and despite my Mk3 being a right pain in the backside for the last 16 months, it's now performing well and I'll be keeping it until the PCP comes to an end and then I'll decide.

So you don't think a quieter cabin and improved styling are good?

The cabin is OK, the design of the infotainment system is to be quite honest crap, it's a fingerprint nightmare.

Virtual cockpit resolution is pee poor, my tablet is better. External styling is awful too.

1000% disagree on that. MK4 looks better than MK3 looked 9 years ago.

I agree. Someone I know had one for a few months for work and it looked great inside and out.

Apart. From the software problem which are improving all of the time, the drive by people on. Here say is great, the styling is very good, comfort very good.tyre noise does this not depend what tyre is on your car.?am waiting for mine but looking forward in getting it.as far as conspiracy things is utter rubbish and where is the proof if it is happening and will these papers, magazines accept that?they test drive the car and come up with there opinion and know there readers would stop buying this mag/paper if this story was true.

Autocar / What Car so Haymarket media group have made cars Car of the year when none were yet with Owners in the UK and they had tested left hand drive media cars only.   Lord Michael Hesaltine,s publishing group that does work for VW Group and even vehicle launches are never that quick on anything critical and certainly after bigging up models like the Mk3 Fabia and telling readers about future value etc never update on the Recalls and faults as the 1.4 TDI had, water pump failures and other issues.

Tyre noise can be affected by tyres but also suspension and soundproofing.

Well I stand corrected, you have put me in a different frame of mind about reading these magazines.i thought they were independent reviews obviously not.cheers

When I was driving a 2016 Ford Focus a few weeks ago I looked up reviews of it as I didn't like the steering. None of them seemed to critisise it.

The Mk 4 Octy estate is one of the best looking cars on the road today. The ride is excellent, despite the low profile tyres and the seats are really comfortable. Have a look at the thread 'The good, the (not so) bad and definitely not ugly Octavia iV Estate' thread for a more detailed review. The only gripe is the software issues, although ours has only minor glitches and these are forgiveable as the car is a dream to drive, excellent acceleration, good economy (90mpg over 3700 miles consisting of about 50% e-power and 50% IC, with about 30 - 35 miles on e-power) . However, because the car is so heavily dependent on software, we won't  keep it after the three -year warranty expires - it's due its third software update in a couple of weeks. Contrast this with our Mk 2 Octy diesel, which was exchanged after nine years!
