Low oil pressure in morning.

Featured Replies

Hi

Iam getting low oil pressure  in mornings.

Last week in the snow my sump sensor came off.

Since then iam getting low oil pressure in the mornings, once warmed no warnings signs.

It's the red sign.

Car has 388k miles ,could it be the oil pump.

Engine runs fine when warm.

is it a hard job to change oil pump,my.mechanic was saying its belt driven.

Thanks

No idea, since you haven't said which engine you have. It's not impossible for an oil pump change to start "drop the sump..."

I guess you mean, "the connector to my sump sensor came off"? Can you not reconnect it?

Thanks fir the replies,I have reconnected  the plug.

But the low level orange light is still on.

The engine is 2 litre tdi cfgb.

Thanjs

So why do you think you need to change the oil pump? Check the oil level. If that's fine, suspect a partially blocked pick-up.

Connector contact or sensor damaged by the impact which pulled the connector off, wire broken inside the insulation etc is a much more plausible explanation, the chances of your oil pump failing at the same time are the same as me winning the lottery and I never buy a lottery ticket!!

Thanks guys

should this be moved to Octavia?

Iam going to take tje sump off tomorrow,

Are the pumps shafts a common fault, should I get them changed also forgot to mention I changed the oil pressure switch which I bought from euro carparts.

Since I changed the switch thus happened.

If the switch was faulty wouldn't  the oil pressure light stay on  all time.

Might change it to dealer part.

Any thoughts sorry for the long rant.

Thanks

Surely look at the last thing that happened "Last week in the snow my sump sensor came off."

I'd say check / repair wiring around the switch first - it may have sustained damage. Also fit an original fitment switch. Do this before disturbing the sump.  Make sure the oilway to the switch is clean - if you snapped it off did some rubbish get in?

Normally if something is wrong with oil pump/crank etc then low oil pressure is worse when warm.

[EDIT]  Re read - you no longer have the red  low oil pressure light on -  just the orange oil level light? Why remove the sump?  Oil pump has nothing to do with oil level.

Isn't the oil level sensor separate - have you disturbed / damaged this? and I presume the oil level isn't low?

Also just confirming which car do you have? Your signature says Octavia but this is the Superb mk II section.  Think CFGB is a Superb II  engine though.

Thanks bighorn

Sorry I have a 62 plate superb with cfgb engine.

I put on a new sump sensor my mechanic wired it up,but the orange low level and sensor light are on.

Also in the morning the red low I'll pressure comes on then it goes out when oil is a bit warm.

I can drive it all day without light coming on.

Before the snow everything was fine.

.

Thanks

No luck cos it blew again, or which warning light are you seeing, both?

As far as I know the red one is only to do with the pressure switch, the yellow/amber only to do with the level/temperature sensor, so you may have two different issues; which would be surprising.

I'm seeing red in the morning and oil level all the time.

Did you check it again to see if the new fuse has blown?

I have changed the oil pressure hopefully its that just started it after a few hours no low oil pressure light came on.

Unfortunately  glow plug light is on and ups gone into limp mode.

I gave had the glow plug taken off,the fault was something to do with the turbocharger.

Really getting annoyed now,

The fuse didn't blow.

Thanks

Now the glowplug light is on you'll likely have additional / new fault codes stored.

It needs rescanning for the fault codes again.
