Superb 2.0 TDI (12) EGR removal to clean

Featured Replies

How much of a pig of a job is it to remove the EGR to inspect / clean ?

I am good mechanically,  just lazy as hate working on cars on the driveway

Some videos suggest driveshaft removal for access

Sounds a PITA

Its a complete pain in the *rse

Not one to be done on driveway

4 hour job with a ramp as we usually takeoff dpf for cleaning at same time

Good video here

It's quite a fidly job, access is very tight, it took me half a day to remove the egr with the car on ramps however this was my first time doing any involved work on a car engine beyond spark plugs, filters etc so I was going very slowly. One thing I did notice was that the aluminium the egr valve is made from appears to be quite soft, I managed to strip one of the threads going into the egr so it may be worth having an m6 helicoil kit just in case.

that sounds interesting, how does one clean a dpf if removed?

I had to have my DPF cleaned due to having a blown turbo send gunk into the DPF. The garage that replaced the turbo removed the DPF and it was given a chemical clean. This was 2 years ago and the DPF has not caused any issues thus far.

We usually send them to the Turbo Guy to clean them

That's for really high mileage taxis 250,000 onwards

For not so high we self clean with Wynns off car DPF Cleaner or Vtech DPF Cleaner from GSF     but do it on the car

Hers a good video showing process

Informative video, is it my computer or my ears because 99% of his speech was completely inaudible to me like so many other similar videos I presume recorded using a smartphone.

Everything else in the house was silent, the whirr of the cooling fan on my laptop was much louder than the commentary, is it just me?
