If you alter anything on the car the warranty will be invaid........so wait until the warranty is up or take the chance of not being covered should something go wrong

Superchips offer a comprehensive engine warranty as part of the remap, which I think is effective for a year after the remap is done.... No idea how good the actual map is though!

Chris

Superchips did suggest they would cover anything not covered by the warrenty due to their remap for the duration of the manufacturers warrenty. I would however think that it would only cover things directly covered as opposed to skoda saying squeeky seat, no sir your car is remapped.

As Chris said woth giving them a call.

I have asked Superchips for the full terms and conditions of their warranty since this topic has been mentioned a couple of times recently. In the meantime this is what it says on their website:

In the extremely unlikely event of a Superchip being responsible for causing damage to your vehicle, Superchips will, under the terms and conditions of our warranty, repair your vehicle.

We arrange for an independent assessor to evaluate the problem and to arrange for the repair of your vehicle quickly and professionally.

The warranty is not intended to replace the existing warranty provided by the manufacturer, but will supplement it to cover the parts deemed to be excluded by the manufacturer. Full terms and conditions are available upon request.

I am not sure how you could ever prove that a Superchip was responsible for causing damage to a vehicle.

Hi

If you are looking to remap your car and it is still covered under warranty , the best thing to do would be to have a remap that will change back to standard.

This wat it is almost impossible for the dealers to find if the car is remaped.

With a remap too it will not invalidate the whole of the cars warranty , only the parts connected with the remap.

It would be very difficult to prove blame for the majority of faults , but the majority of the time it would be manufacuring defect.

Sarah

I know by the spirit of things the remap shouldn't invalidate the whole warrenty, but if you look at the skoda terms if you alter anything the whole warrenty is invalidated.

EDIT: As pointed out by Denis, it appears this isn't correct. There is a link below posted by DGW which has the terms in it.

There have been a couple of cases where a remap or similar have made things difficult for warrenty work to be carried out on here, so if you are really worried about the warrenty, as stated earlier don't do anything that might invalidate it.

reading this thread makes me wonder, not having read the small print of my warranty, if I've changed the in car audio unit for something better have I invalidated the warranty?

I believe technically, by the terms of the warrenty, yes you have invalidated it as you have plugged it into the wiring loom. With that however they might have a hard time arguing a case, esp if you were to put the stock unit back into the car whenever it goes in. However arguing that a remap caused damage to the car would be much less hard and much easier to prove it has been done.

rightly or wrongly "some" dealers still do warranty work on modified cars... its worth checking with your dealer.

i have read that some also offer remaps as options when buying a car.

I have reproduced the terms of the SkodaAuto New Car Warranty in a sticky at the top of each model's forum for ease of reference, ie here in this one. It does not say that the whole warranty is invalidated if the vehicle is modified.

I know what you are saying Denis and on reading what you posted you are correct,

however I was only going on what i was told by SUKCS & a dealer.

Only reason i asked was i was thinking of doing a new H/unit and aero blades, and I am sure that if they are in a bad mood they can link most things that creak or break to a remap, or at least try.

Tis true, but they will make your life hard when they want.

Have corrected original post with an addition to save anyone reading down the thread getting my duff info.

Remapping a normally aspirated engine will only give you approx a 10% increase in power.....on it's own it isn't worth it...IMHO.

You can get much better gain using tradional methods e.g flowing the head, wilder profile cams etc...but this is expensive purely due to the amount of labour involved.

Maybe this could be the solution for anyone wanting a remap under warranty or on a company car? It provides a generic remap rather than a rolling road tailor made remap.

i have spoken to the guys at jabba and they tell me that they do remaps for brand new cars for several main dealers and have no probs with warranty!! It seems to be just the attitude of some dealers and not others!!

k:)
