Heater blower and windows.

Featured Replies

This may be abit of an odd one. I can't wrap my head around it.

This started to happen last year, around winter time and became less frequent through summer. Now the temperatures dropping and the moisture is in the air this fault keeps happening every morning (pretty much)

I'll start the car up and use the fan controls to clear the condensation from the front screen and nothing happens. I try to open the windows and nothing. I have to wipe the screen clear which takes time. I can drive off and after somewhere between a minute and 10 minutes the heater blower will kick in and I can use the windows again. Absolute pain in the arse this time of year!

Any ideas please?

Cheers!

Sounds like the X contact relief relay in position 11 of the relay panel is playing up.  It supplies the cabin fan, fog lights and a wake-up input to the master (driver's side) window motor modules on cars built from late 2004 on. When was yours made?

Thank you for the answer mate. Much appreciated! My build was Feb 2005 by the looks of it (on a 54 plate). Where can I find this relay and what can I do to sort it?

Thank you.

Superfluous post.

Thank you.

The relay panel is behind the lower dash trim under/right of steering wheel on RHD cars. It's a minor faff to get at, after Strictly I'll link you to a thread where it is described well in words and pictures.

Either the relay is worn out, or its input is dodgy, probably easiest to swap in another relay first.

That didn't actually matter, funnily enough. The lads were amazing too. 😊

Right okay this doesn't seem to be the same problem I have unfortunately haha my heater blower fan / AC doesn't come on when is start the car. I usually have to drive off and after a minute or so and latest of 10 minutes for it to work. The windows won't work in that time or starts to work about the same time as the heater blowing coming to life. So I don't really know what I'm looking for haha

I don't follow? I wasn't suggesting that the evaporator temperature sensor is your problem,  that's just a handy thread which describes getting the lower dash cover off. Which then gives you access to the relays??

Seems to be apparently either the X contact relief relay or possibly ignition switch faulty? Only bit of information I can find

Ah apologies I ended up reading the whole bloody thing haha most of the people posting are talking about removing the ECU

Yes,  ignition switch fault might cause input to relay to be unreliable.

Being gay myself, I was hoping the lads to win, but as you say, it doesn't really matter as they all did great 👍

It's probably worth me checking that relay first before i start forking out for new ignition switch haha thank you for your input mate, really appreciate it.

They were all decent tonight (wife had it on whilst I was researching haha) gutted about AJ and Kai

Janette and Aljaz were sensational at the end too, with Ed Sheeran firmly in the background. :D

Please let us know how you get on with the relay.
