Continuation. The legacy file part 1

Featured Replies

Evening all, so you guys know me from my previous threads, looks like I bought a pig, but im not going to let it beat me, nor let an unscrupulous garage (deals on wheels Manchester) sell it on. Fools errand possibly but hey

So. Here's where we are the garage didn't want anything to do with it, i was well within my right to return it etc but they point blank refused to cooperate, not suprised by this in any way. I'm still deliberating taking them to small claims but that's for another thread

Anyway

Red has been to two other garages for diagnostics and coding.

Now, most of the generic codes have gone, its been left with the genuine issues, mainly the front radar calibration, headlight and component protection.

Car is now in the safe hands I think of vw retrofit in redditch

Hmmmm.....good that you are determined to get it fixed but looking at the garage, it has some dodgy reviews in the 5* section and more than enough unhappy 1* customers - enough to put me off in the first instance, however, the used car market is full of sharks and some call themselves 'main dealers'!

I would take them to a small claims court for everything you’ve paid for so far plus any additional work.

Keep all your receipts for the case, I very much doubt they’ll turn up.

Look forward to seeing your case on Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away

Be interested to see what gets resolved when it comes back by tonight, updates later!

Based on the very limited fault code data you’ve given I would say there’s a few things I’d pick up on.

firstly I’d be wondering if it’s had a front end collision and had headlights, radar and such replaced.

if this isn’t the case I’d be looking at module 09 next having been replaced and not coded correctly or going faulty.

after this I would say there is damage to the wiring loom behind the glovebox to where it comes through below the battery tray in the engine bay.

dont leave us hanging, what did they find?

Unless I have confused the OP with someone else then there was a parallel thread detailing exactly what you say, collision damage, bodged wiring connectors etc, in it they said that the car was advertised as a repaired Category C or S write off and they knew the score when they bought it.

They could not return the vehicle because of this so there is little chance of making a small claims court claim.

My apologies to Dalmich if I have confused you with somebody else.

Things found

Deffo the engine loom was buggered both side of the connector

Headlight seemed to be wrong and refused to be coded

Parking sensor loom has been wrapped up.. Needs replacing as not knowing what's underneath

Lots of generic codes cleared but the radar for the acc could be coded so winning in one respect

OK, yes, you have it right thats me

Yes I bought it as a cat s, no, I was unaware of all these issues Ive been faced with and certainly wasnt told of anything that was wrong.

I have chosen to put it right as I feel it's worth it in the long run.

So, update time

Spoke in great lengths to another member and we managed to work out that the one headlight was indeed wrong, and no doubt also had the wrong module fitted, so we arranged a meet up

After taking a little trip to potters bar (Elliott) we had more progress

Headlight fitted, new module coded great stuff.. However

Wrong module Fitted to correct headlight so had to go running around london for another module to get that coded as well!

Front bumper is wrong and needs the one with washer jets

Parking sensors held in with silicone and loom damaged

Washer plumbing blocked off with bolts and everything else cut away

New shopping list then!

Glad you updated the thread with what we found.
hopefully once all the repairs are done we will be back to a perfect car and you’ll be more than happy with it then!

hope the long journey down was worth it to get the car sorted

Were not done yet 😂😂😂

Aside from having found a lot more bodges than you expected I like you seek out these vehicles when I can negotiate them for the right price because I find it incredibly satisfying putting all the bodges right and ending up not only with a straight vehicle at the end of it but one that I know inside out.

I wish you luck and am glad that you have embraced the challenge.

As you can see, the last bodge (I hope) is finally sorted, wires wrapped together, wrong colour twisted together...

Messy

New loom, new rad, new sensors, new parking loom, new plumbing for washer jets... New bumper, new front end practically...

But now.   Looking like we're fixed!

Fantastic result!  Well done on the restoration!

Good result, I said ages ago to get rid of it but you knew best and kept chugging along.

Hopefully you can now just enjoy the car and get your evening and weekends back
