Mine is in auto when I start the car, so same as he says above """You press "recirc" the recirculation flap closes off the outside intake; press recirc again and the intake opens"""

I have difficulty with the idea that anyone dislikes breathing so much that they normally keep their car in recirc mode. In any event that only changes the initial state of the system, not the logic that when you press the button it changes to the other state.

I do like breathing, you don't seem to grasp that I use re-circ a lot in dusty conditions. Normally re-circ is not engaged and I let the CC carry on and do it's thing.

I do understand what's going on behind the dash board in simple terms.

The original poster and I seem to have similar problems.

I'm only asking if anyone has an idea of how it operates: are there 4 flaps, 1 flap, 10 flaps, are they all gear driven , location on RHD cars (for me), schematic flow diagram - anything that may give me a clue before I try and get up side down under the dash with a torch.

If the answer is no - fine. I have no wish to know what your mind might or might not think.

Graham - I've found a friend who might have  an endoscope, so might give it a shot, thanks for the idea.

The VAG Climatronic self study guide will give you all the information you could ever want, its generic for all the vehicles but the Yeti is no different.

Dasboard removal gives full access to everything, it sounds extreme but is in fact very easy to do.

Every system including the Climatronic can be run with the dashboard removed, you just need to plug everything back in like the instrument console etc.

With VCDS you can command all of the flaps and see how many degrees they have moved compared to commanded, no need for endoscopes, grovelling around under the dash or removing it unless you find a motor or flap that needs replacing that cannot be accessed otherwise.

Brilliant idea, many thanks.

I'm not brave enough to take out the dash, my indie is more of a spanner man with limited diagnostics - so I think it may be  a dealer option.

Nothing has seemingly failed except the creaking, groaning of the re-circ flap which has increased in volume recently. Do you know if there is a rainwater drain for incoming fresh air?

Before you start pulling the dash apart I would get someone to plug in some diagnostics and check the temperature sensors in each of the vents. When they fail, they read very high or very low compared to the other functioning sensors.  The ones that have failed on me, yeti and Octavia, have caused cold air to blow out of the respective vent, regardless of heater temp setting unless you put the control on maximum then the vent blows hot. They regulate the flaps so a lot of people get the symptoms muddled with failing flaps, just saying.
