I did the same as AnnoyingPentium and never been flashed and had no problems on MOT.

We have the same units too from DEPO, they came from some ECP subsidiary. :)

I've just got the photos of the box with the old HELLA units inside from my for sale listing on here. They're the same boxes though.

I gave my old ones away to a member on here called Hutchy who has/had a business dealing with Fabia headlights.

Ah yeah, is he still around these days? I'm having a hell of a time trying to shift the damned things.

I've not seen him around for ages now. Nice guy too, hope he's OK.

I changed one side before MOT( some kind person had reversed into it and made off) ,but I'd gotten tired of the short life of Halogen lamps, so changed both dip to LED. At MOT, tester had no problems with beam pattern just fact that lamps were not as per spec, so I changed them back to Halogen.

Looking back a few posts, the units I got from "energized custom" were DEPO.

As I've posted, I've changed both sides and have one passenger side with broken securing lugs and a driver side totally intact, and needing a good polish. The bits on the broken lamp are free to anyone needing them ( unless someone can repair the unit lugs, and then it's free to take away etc), The driver side is intact and is free to a good home ,if collected etc.

I fitted exactly the same units also and carried out the chalk mate set and they were fine at mot time.

I replaced my units. Before removing the old ones I drove an appropriate distance (about 2m) from my Grampa's garage door, turned the headlights on, and marked the door with chalk where the beam met.

Once complete the job, the lights went back on and we're adjusted to meet the chalk markings. Haven't had a passing car flash me for the lights yet so they must be okay. Getting them checked before the MOT just to be sure though.

Thanks AnnoyingPentium. I bought this set from onlinecarparts.com and plan on doing the weekend. My drive has a massive slope so I was racking my brains how to do it. Your idea is spot on. If I get the original position and then set the new to the same it doesn't matter if the drive is flat on not..... 🤣

My Grampa's driveway is where we done mine and we've got a slight downward slope but as long as you've marked the points then you'll be fine. Just hope it doesn't rain and wash the chalk or similar off.

Correct, flat or sloping as long as the slope is continous and does not change and that all 4 wheels of the vehicle remain on the slope.

Yep. Don't move the car at all, or else you're going to end up the creek without a paddle, as they say. :D

Oh I misunderstood and had forgotten what I had already read, you of course were replacing headlights and wanted the beam setting to be the same as the old ones.

My comments were regarding my method of setting the beam by parking close to the garage door or whatever surface, marking with chalk the centre of the main beam pattern and then reversing straight back say 15 feet and adjusting the headlights to remain centred on that spot.

I then trace the dipped beam cut off and reverse back to make sure that it does no raise or deviate to the left for France or right for the UK.
