Over the last week or so my Kamiq SEL has been trying to install an update to the electronic user manual but it kept failing with the error code ERR_1002_DM_IN and an instruction to contact a specialist garage. Yesterday I managed to resolve it far more easily than I expected and without the assistance of a dealer.

 

I have my music on a memory stick which is left plugged in all the time and it appears that was the issue. I unplugged it at the start of a journey, but after the infotainment had booted up and the update failed once more. However I left it out and on the return journey it worked, although it took 10 or 15 minutes to install. I did use the radio to have something to listen to.

 

No idea if it's specific to the memory stick or whether it's a USB socket being in use. The stick is always left in the furthest forward socket so I can use my phone for Android Auto when I want, though admittedly that's not often.

Thank you NeilRW, I get some strange things happen with a usb stick. I have right angle 'C' to usb short cables in both

the 'C' sockets and every thing holds its breath when I fit the usb music stick. "Simply too clever" I think.

Skoda recommended using there usb-c leads as not to cause errors
