clutch woes...............

Featured Replies

Hi,

i own a 2006 Fabia Vrs

currently sat on 135k and since my ownership has cost very little aside from a few bits and servicing costs etc etc........... Its had a dmf rattle for a while but has never got any worse (just on start up) but its just started to have the odd slip around 2.5k so its now time to replace it..... Now car is totally standard and i'm not planning on doing anything silly power wise. So my question is parts are around the 3 piece clutch £150 and dmf £220 and fitting, whats best practice to do the job properly any seals or anything else? also is smf a realistic option or is the tick over noise and vibration a total no go? and do the cons outweigh any benefits? im here and listening...........

Id say stick with the standard setup - I had a gearbox blow up about 2 years ago and at the time I went with a Sachs DMF and a Sachs SRE clutch kit along with the release baring and slave cylinder !

Its good practice to changeout the slave cylinder. - The one we took out of mine was in good shape but its no harm when the gearbox is out

As long as its good quality standard parts you put into her - I used all Sachs stuff but there are loads of OE alternatives - Middle of the road is perfectly fine, Avoid cheap and nasty !

Check the starter solenoid connection as well while its all stripped again no harm - Have I missed sommit - feeling I have

Excellent comprehensive reply! I’d rather do things right first time, with the best quality parts.

It’s worth checking the rear main oil seal for any leaks and replace if in doubt. It’s a clutch out job if it leaks badly in the future.
