MY22 front assistance camera?

Featured Replies

I understand that for e.g. traffic sign recognition to be enabled with VCDS/ODB11 there has to physically be the camera at the windscreen position.  On pre-MY22 cars I think that meant having lane keeping assistance as a factory option.  Now the MY22 cars all have matrix LED headlights which presumably means having a camera in the same position, is it possible to turn on traffic sign recognition without having to have LKA as a factory option?   ...or are they different cameras etc.?  Anyone have any idea please?

Unhelpful Internet forum answer: For the sake of £50 or whatever it is... I'd just tick the option box if I was that bothered. But as someone who has it, I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there - it isn't the most reliable thing in the world and picks up speed signs in odd places and at odd angles (see other discussions on the fun and games of Predictive ACC).

Possibly slightly more helpful answer: I was under the impression that enabling functionality on newer (MIB3) cars was more difficult/impossible anyway... but I could be wrong.

I think the latest update to ODB11 has reenabled the diddle it yourself approach via some VAG newly sanctioned tomfoolery.  Seems to be the case if ODB11's website and forum is to be believed.  I'd have happily ticked the £50 box for sign recongition, but it wasn't available without at least LKA which (based on previous experience) I wasn't willing to shell for.  You know how it is; one whiff of something for nothing...  😊

Can you confirm your bear has only one camera Yogi?

I might be wrong, but I doubt OBD11 can change anything. As OBD port is pretty much closed now for tweaking and if VCDS cannot code anything anymore, OBD11 will definitely not be able to do that.

Their business idea seems to be copy VCDS solutions to their dongle. Cannot see anything that they developed all by their own.

I always thought their business model is to let users research and experiment with long coding and then monetise any seems to work tweaks posted on their forums as a one click app.

I honestly have no idea... but I have Travel Assist so have lane guidance as well (which might mean I have >1 camera anyway, which won't help!). Will take a look tomorrow and let you know.

Just a note to say that there are still two different headlight types for the latest facelift Kodiaq, both are LED but not all are Matrix, at least for the UK.

The SE and SE Drive get 'Low Functionality' LED headlights with halogen front fog lights...

SE L / SE L Executive and above gain the Matrix headlights...

Presumably that then means there is still likely to be variability across the windscreen mounted cameras, radars and sensors dependant on specification.

Nope, two cameras I think. One big one at the top, with another smaller one (pretty sure it's a camera!) below, and just above what I assume is the rain sensor (looks like a third camera lens, but is pointing upwards).

Thanks Yogi.  I can compare with my own now, as mine doesn't have any driving assistance bar ACC which I believe is radar only.

This is what I have fitted.  Single camera at the top then a bunch of sensors beneath.  Two of the sensors to the right could be cameras, the left side looks to be blanked off.

Looks just like mine... wasn't sure if the 'top' of the bottom cluster was a second camera, but your photo makes me think probably not.

I don`t think there were two cameras ever.

This bunch is probably: camera and two rain sensors (earlier cars had even 4 rain sensors). Also light sensor should be somewhere.

I've had a look at my MY22 with Matrix LED using ODB11.  The referenced settings from a thread on their forums re: enabling TSR don't even appear on my car.  A non starter then, at least for now.

You cannot modify your car with OBD11 or VCDS anymore, Access to systems has been cut off by VAG since 2021.

With respect, I think that was the case however ODB11 seem to have been able to renable it now.  Certainly the MY22 vRS is showing as being fully supported now which is wasn't a month or so ago.

Have you tried it?

I really really doubt that some lithuanian computer guys in OBD11 can do what US engineers in VCDS cannot.

Unless they own a guy in VAG who feeds them with access codes. Which is unlikely.

As I understand they managed to hack some ODIS tool to receive access codes?

I've no idea how they've done it or if it's in a VAG approved fashion :notme:

It's also possible that it's a loophole which VAG might prevent in the future.

Good point.  TSR seems to be sold as an adjunct to LKA.  I'd assumed it was just the presence of the front camera that made the difference.
