Kamiq Monte Carlo 1.5TSI DSg

Featured Replies

Hello, I’ve been a long time lurker here but felt compelled to finally join today after picking up my brand new Kamiq yesterday. I managed to bag a Monte Carlo as it was arriving in the U.K. therefore avoiding any long wait due to the current micro chip shortage led ordering delay.
Only 60 miles into my ownership but I have to say I’m blown away by this model. Engine and gearbox provide a fun drive (I’m very used to DSG) the toys are a step up, interior finish a class above and the colour moon white with the gloss black trim is in my opinion a real head turner.
Having owned Fabia’s, Octavia’s,  I30’s, Saabs and a Santa Fe this is the most fun I’ve had in such a short time and I hope it’s a sign of good things come.
interestingly this model has an updated DSG knob with the gear selector in the top of the knob rather than the housing to the side which looks rather smart. Personally I feel climate control and keyless entry are a big loss by not being included.
Any questions ask away - but definitely chuffed 🙂

Hey!

Congrats on your new car.

What do you mean by an updated DSG Knob?

I've got a 2021 Style with the same engine and DSG.

Can I see yours? I am really curious.

Hi. Here is a photo of mine.

Nice. It does look more like a manual, I don't really know which one I prefer honestly, maybe the old one.

Are your interior lights and trunk lights halogen or led?

I changed mine to led but its a pain to get to the bulbs.

For my MY they also removed footwell lighting even though it is in the manual. Do you have that?

How's that you have manual A/C controls and yet I see pics of other Monte Carlos with digital controls ?

Its an option in the UK.

Aha, I didn't know that. Whilst I think it doesn't look as nice as the digital system, it's got to be much easier to operate, especially on the move.

My car was a demo and came with the digital controls.

Yeah its annoying to change the fan speed.

I keep it on auto but sometimes I do change it to manual.

Hi, having had the old DSG in a Seat I think I prefer the new one, it looks a little more ‘expensive’. The interior lights are LED and have a lovely sharp but almost grey light if that makes sense. The ambient lighting is in the footwell and comes from the trim, underwhelming but lifts the interior a bit.

I dont like the manual A/C I think it looks a bit low rent for what is otherwise a lovely car, but I understand the climate control whilst visually nicer is awkward to change fan speed on, I suspect I would still have chosen climate given the choice.

This car was already enroute so I had no choice on colour and no ability to add options, it is a basic Monte Carlo so it was a case of have this one now or order one and wait for however long.

The white would never have been my first choice but I have to say it is a real stand out colour on the Monte Carlo due to the contrast of the blacked out chrome.  I would have liked auto dimming mirror but this has been removed as an option, I would have also liked a variable height boot to remove the lip, but again I had no choice.

None of the nice to have things are missed and I can live without any of the additional options without any up issues, I still cant get over how nice the car is and especially how the 1.5 behaves when you need to accelerate.

Do the running in procedure before being frugal

I see.

Well, it's a shame Skoda didn't bother puting LEDs in mine, I guess they are cheaping out for Eastern Europe once again.

I’ve got a 1.5 sel which is a good car but doesn’t really suit my needs hence I’m getting rid. One of the most annoying things I’ve ever had in any car is the mix of air conditioning controls between manual and digital/screen. Skoda have obviously had feedback and changed to dials which imo are much more user friendly.

No the sel has always had climatic not manual. The Monti Carlo comes with manual you can ad climatic as an option. I just leave mine in Auto never used the screen if it needs defrosting I press the max button when defrosted press again goes back to auto

I bow to your superior knowledge but my sel is a mix of buttons which are manual and the screen hence the use of the word mix?

The SEL only came with climatronic  and not manual.

My Monte has aircon this is a button next to the heater knob  and the fan speed knob.

Spoiler

Had mine a year now and love it.  The DSG gear box is fantastic and fuel consumption is excellent.  Love the Colour and had loads of complements on how great it looks.  My wife liked it so much she has an SEL on order, but delivery is July at the earliest we believe.

That grey is a nice colour, and I shall be looking out for it, seeing as you are within three miles of me and my white one.

That white looks great too I will keep an eye out.  My wife didn’t like it when it came, it was all totally my choice as it’s my car, it’s grown on her LOL !

Really happy with ours too.

Our first drive home from the dealer as had to go to the city to pick it up, it did 470 miles before the fuel light came on, and that's open road driving at 100kph over varying terrain.

Headlights are better than my VRS Kodiaq's, seats are comfortable, and handles well with the DCC suspension etc. glass roof can get hot in summer though as the heat transfer is high.

No real problems so far except Nav has an empty blanked out speed limit sign display. Will go in for software update next month as a year old so hopefully fixes it. My sisters one is a month newer and is fine.
