  • Ahh, now we're getting somewhere.   I used self amalgamating tape very tightly wrapped over the splits, it helped a bit, but only a bit, vacuum lost within 5 seconds of switching the engine

  • You should have a fault code stored, unfortunately despite closing my eyes and concentrating really hard I can't read it from here.

  • Yeah, unbranded stuff generally is very cheap, unfortunately it's usually no good either.   Keep looking.

i was going to buy some last night but came across the brown tape so thought i would ask. i am guessing the brown tape is not sticky enough or strong enough?

Nowhere near good enough, frankly it's barely adequate for taping parcels.

ok guys

 

just bought some gorilla duct tape, taped the air intake pipe ( still not sure if it is called that) then started the engine and it felt and sound smooth.

i forgot to disconnect the battery so have done that now and il go connect it in about 20 mins.

read somewhere that whenever you change pipes or spark plugs or anything, it is best to disconnect the battery( something to do with getting rid of the old codes or perhaps to relearn the new things added) . is this not true?

No. Won't don't any harm, won't do any good either.

Repairing that pipe won't even make any real difference except keeping out unfiltered air.

It is true of the earlier K-line ECU's, since Euro 5, disconnecting the battery will not reset the dynamic map, you have to use diagnostic software to clear the faults which also clears the map.

Dynamic maps are constantly updating in any case.

 

My favorite one was reading that a knock sensor needs a tankfull of fuel to be consumed to adapt to a different octane 😆

That's true but they can and do go out of range due to inaccurate sensors.

Yes but they can be recalibrated by performing a long low slow battery charge followed by a slow hot oil change, after doing that they only take 200 miles to react 🤣

They can even morph into rusty crankshaft position sensors 😆

BZG engine ECU is powered via an ignition switched relay, so as far as it knows the battery is disconnected every time the ignition is switched off.

So it's Euro 5 compliant with a non-volatile memory and needs the codes clearing to reset the map?

hi guys

 

i was just wondering if anyone has a diagram of where all my vacuum pipes/hoses are please? i want to do some test as where the leaks are.

 

i have got some carb cleaner but the only vacuum hose i know is the pipe at the back, going to spray some carb over the pipes when the engine is running.

think i got the right pipes, sprayed some brake cleaner on those pipes and the rpm hasnt made any difference.

 

bought some more spark plugs from euro car parts and when starting the engine, it sounds much better tan before. before it was bit hesitant to start but this time, it made the k k k  noise, when i turn the key. hard to explain the noise.
