Removing wing mirror assembly

Featured Replies

Please help!  The metal bearing in our wing mirror has broken, so I want to take the assembly out and repair it.

Do you have to remove the whole door card to get the little tweeter panel out?  Could I just release the clips on the section closest to the engine and pull it out enough to get the tweeter panel off?  Why did they make it so hard to remove the tweeter!

Thanks

Sadly it's the only way.

U can't remove the tweeter speaker grill with the door card on.

It needs to come off, so u can remove the bolt holding the wing mirror - #4 in the pic below.

Thanks @JR RS, not what I wanted to hear, but I thought that might be the case.  We really need that legislation about designing for repair and maintenance to get moving, so silly!

Thanks for the picture, do you have anything which shows how the tweeter panel is attached?

I have seen some posts about removing the door card - looks like you have to release the locking nut at the bottom and 1 screw under the electric window controls, then use a prising tool to release the door card.  Will that give sufficient movement to take the tweeter panel off?  Or do I need to take out the panel with the electric window controls?  I am hoping I don't have to release any of the connections.

Thanks again!

@TCL - this great how-to remove the front door card video was created by @digifish

below is a pic from the workshop manual of the tweeter grille - #5

tis not very clear, nor detailed.

I don’t think that anything like this would be covered by the repair and maintenance legislation. It’s not a serviceable item and in general it stays attached, they won’t exactly put the door card on Velcro and the mirror on wing nuts just to speed up the possibility that it may need to come off some time in its life?

something like not putting filters in awful places or special tools to change would be covered I’d assume.

@ApertureSI think people in cities with narrow roads quite often find their wing mirrors are damaged.  When I was looking into how to take the wing mirror off it became clear that it used to be easy for the Skoda range (just take the tweeter panel off) but now you have to take the door card off to take the tweeter panel off - any good reason possible?!

Even if you could remove the tweeter panel to get to the bolts, you still have to get to the wiring which is connected behind the door card.

people have their bumpers hit a lot too, should we just fit all bumpers with race style rubber bands too?
