Nope. He bought it in 1998 for about £850. It soared in value because it's a 1.4 SR - a clean one too since it received a lot of work to it.

 

This is a photo of it by the new owner.

I had an A-reg silver 1.2GL Nova but according to the DVLA it died in 1998 (they were only available in that trim level for a year or so).  I spent a whole summer one year sorting all the rust out on it and smartening it up then a few months later traded it for new (H-reg) Mitsubishi Colt 1.5GLX

 

It was originally my sister's car but she sold it to me when she got a new 1.3SR in pale metallic blue...   at which point I sold on my pea green Chevette 1.3L

It was my Dad's second car. His first was a D-reg base spec (Merit?), the rear '1.2' badge from it lives atop my stereo system as an ornament now. I'll post a photo when I'm home. 

 

That H-reg SR has quite a story. My Dad sold it around 2002 when he bought an ST185 Celica. It spent around 12 years in a garage about 20 miles away from where I live. It was then bought by a young lad in my village (who has an Octy vRS now) who blew the engine up. It was then bought by my late father's friends from school who fitted a new engine with Weber carbs (like the way my Dad had it) and some other snazzy bits and restored it as best they could.

 

Unfortunately, finances meant that they couldn't keep it and it was sold on eBay with one hell of a bidding war. It's now with a guy in Northamptonshire. 

 

Now, are we a wee bit off topic?

The main weapons of choice around here are the Passat and the A4 Audi - The Lexus IS200 is the crossroad ring maker ! Honda Civic EK4 seems to have lost favour due to insurance cost ! 

 

If we look at the chav mobiles of old - Capri Astra GTE - Civic VTi - Escort XR3i and here the Corolla AE86 to name but a few These all had the stereotype attached - Could we call out any of these now ? 

 

The Fabia has generally left this undeserved stereotype behind - Good original and tidy ones are being minded - tatty altered ones like mine are slowly dying out. 

 

That stereotype never affected the Ibiza FR and Polo GTD - 

 

I'd love a 2ltr petrol Fabia mk1 if I wasn't doing the miles - I love the way mine drives but there's just summit about a proper size NA petrol engine.

Seen a lot with those, but there are a lot of yobbos and chavs with Fabias these days, and as Sepulchrave says, there was a wee bit back too.

...don't forget the Corsa VXR, some really mindless muppets out there in those.

 

The thing I find fascinating is that all they do is chase huge numbers which makes the car effectively undriveable, so they're not really driving enthusiasts at all, just silly show offs.

Agreed. These cars need handling modifications more than performance modifications, or a smack to the back of the head for the owners.

Agreed i can still apreciate a nice car but not the kittenss that drive them
