Rear Washer Leak Through Tailgate

Featured Replies

Hi all.  Went to sort rear washers on our hatch, as they'd not been working for a while.  Noticed that it seemed to be dribbling out of the tailgate near the opening switch.

Stripped the interior trim back and took a look but everything looked A-ok.  So removed the washer jet nozzles and gave that a good clean out.  Checked the wash without that attached and sure enough a good height on the spray!  Now have 2 working jets again (although I think it's a dump setup).

However, my boy noticed that it was still truckling out near the switch underneath.  So anyone had this before or know whether there's an issue with these?  I haven't actually seen where it's coming out, just the remnants trickling down the numberplate.  I assume there isn't supposed to be some sort of spray back there to do with the reversing camera or something?

If I put mine in reverse and use the rear washer it also cleans the rear camera, as well as the rear windscreen.

Ok that's interesting, thanks.  It wasn't running when I tested - just had the ignition switched on.  I think I need to get the wife to sit in the car and activate it whilst I'm outside looking at it - just got my 5yo's take on it at the moment, and the remnants by the time I get back there to take a look! 😄

Just out of curiosity, did you find the problem?

I've stripped the linings out in my hatch as it was leaking from the same point, all of the jets are functioning adequately but get loads of water near the boot close button.

There's no sign of a split pipe or water coming from anywhere else than the rear camera washer. I'm flummoxed!

Has anyone else had this before?

Failing that, does anyone have any instructions for removing the camera and opener module?

Thanks 👍

Swervin_Mervin Did you find where the issue is with the rear camera washer jet?

My 2019 Octavia seems to have a similar issue. I had to clean and unblock the rear windscreen wiper jets with a pin as I though I had a leak there. But I'm noticing because the washer fluid I'm using has quite a dark blue colour there seems to be a lot of this coloured liquid running down my rear numberplate and down the rear bumper. I didn't realise the camera had a washer jet too. Maybe its working ok as is but because of the colour of the liquid and the amount of it running down the number plate and bumper I think its either blocked or leaking out the seems of the camera unit. I'll have to check with my wife putting it in reverse to see if the jet is doing what its supposed to be doing..

I have found traces of liquid over and around the area as well, but is very difficult to point it as a problem as it is very random. I wipe every time, but again, sometimes it does not happen ...

I finally got to look at the rear camera jet in action. It's quite a powerful jet and it just blasts the camera lens with a flat wide jet which reflects the liquid all over the back bumper and drips down onto the rear bumper.

I'm not as concerned now I've seen it in action. I'll just have to use a washing liquid with less colour die in it.

This would explain the leftovers that look like is leaking ... great, thanks for the update!

One problem less 🤪

Hose is broken amd it leaks from the trunk lid.

It is jist lowest point.

Try to open trunk, then close the lock by hand to trick it like it is closed and then use washer.

You will notice water leaks from pilars of tailgate towards the car.
