Roof bars - what do you have?

Finally got the Yakima flush bars and installed them. Impressed with the quality and would recommend following the Yakima video online to fit them rather than the crazy instructions.
Went on a motorway journey and I couldn’t hear them at all and I’m really fussy about noises.
Glad I chose them over the Thule version as the Thule is £100 more in black and sits higher than the Yakima on my car.

Got a pair of Thule 598 mounts for the bikes which I will fit later.

If the Yakima bars are like mine and tighten using red wing nut type things check them regularly. Just done 300 miles with 2 canoes on the roof and the rear bar had slipped!

On checking the front they weren't as tight as I'd done them previously.

Might have you add a second nut or some thread lock on them.

I’m always a bit paranoid about things like this so I would always check them regularly, but thanks for the reminder!!

Most previous flush rails have still had fixed positions where as these don't. I'll be checking regularly in future. I just feel like it goes against the point of this style of bar as a fit and forget sort of thing.

Bars look good though.

I’m not a fan of fixed points as it’s less adaptable. I always make sure the mating surface is clean and dry first which can help. I’d always expect things to loosen over time though it’s pretty normal.

As I only use roof bars a maximum of about 5/ 6 times per year, I didn't see the point in spending £100's on a set.

picked these up for just under £85

Modula Black Roof Bars for Skoda Octavia Estate 2020 - 2022 | DriveDen

accommodate my roof box perfectly and having never had a set of bars before and not being a particularly 'handy' type, I find these very easy to fit and remove, a genuine 5 min job.

the Octavia will be going back in about 6 months time and I'll be getting a similar set for the Kodiaq (if it's ever built)

I did see those but wasn’t keen on the attachment or the extending bars - didn’t look too strong. Probably ok for a roof box but I could be having £8k worth of bikes on my bars so £210 on the Yakima bars didn’t seem much!! 😃

I prefer longer bars as well. The plus side is when I change the car it's a £30 foot pack not a new set of bars

I bought the Skoda’s Transverse roof rack and wanted to share some images here since I couldn’t find any(or just the one from the first page).

Bought them for the main reason that they mount without any tools and/or screws. Just a pully system.
