How easy is it to become an instructor?

I've passed the IAM test, is harder than that?

Can you make good money deing an instructor?

1) quite hard, the final pass rate for all three exams (theory, driving, and teaching) as about 40% ....

2) you shouldn't have any problem with the part 2 driving exam then, maybe just a few tweaks ;)

3) depends on how hard you work.... and how much you charge ;)

I was thinking of becoming a driving instuctor and working for BSM on a part-time basis but then i saw how much it was going to cost me to train!! :(

Briskoda discount? ;)

My uncle was one for awhile, past all the exams and went with im**** school of motoring for just over a year.

He was stuck in a contract with them for three years and one the probation period was up, he hardly got any work, as it was given to the newier drivers like he used to be. The guy in charge would never pay for any repairs even though that was in the contact, in the end my uncle gave it up and went back to the buses as it just wasn't worth doing.

After 3 years he could have gone to another school but his heart just wasn't in it anymore.

Currently he is hoping to get the job as a bus driver instructor. He keeps saying I should go for the IAM test/training but I never do!

The IAM test is worthwhile, I learnt a great deal.

Having a traffic police instructor as an examiner is a bit scary.

The hardest bit is doing the running commentary and driving at the same time.

you have a PM

FFB: I heard of instructors going into long contracts with companies, and it really messing them up.... I work for myself, so I have no ties to anything, which is one of the bonuses of being self employed.. when you start off though you need the business, so a larger school is probably a good idea to get you going

this is the advice I gave to my last trainee who passed in Sheff: start with a school thats gonna provide you with everything until you get used to the business and can maintain your own clients by pupil reccomendations, then buy your own car and go it alone....(much more money this way) he started with passmasters , on a franshise deal, and they are providing his work for him... he's not tied in to a long contract, so he can leave when he likes, so as soon I he gets his feet, I expect him to! then he'll be his own boss, which is what he wants

Do you need a duel control car?

Do you need a duel control car?

you certainly don't need one to train as an instructor in, or to do your exams in...

you dont need one to tech learners in, but I would v.strongly reccomend it! my car would have been trashed many times if it wasn't for the duels... (and my heart would have given up!

Do leaners without duels???? What are you MAD??????

Think it always helps to be a little mad if your an instructor! but even so i wouldnt be with out my duals!

Here's a pic of my bro's Driving school ca he picked up yesterday. His company name is ABC School of Motoring so the plate is well suited!

Seen a Civic Type R as a driving school car. wouldn't want to learn in one myself - bit of a pig and not exactly forgiving to a learner!

Quite fun mind!

^ There was a school of motoring in the Taunton area (MInster school of motoring) that used to run a 309 GTi & an Orion 1.6i Ghia as a learner driver car back when I was learning in 1991!

I'd see it and think 'how cool must it be to learn in a GTI!?'

it does work, people saying "cool car" gets the business in :)

note: the ibiza looks nice.... I would have had the PD 160 though! ;)
