Advice for a first time Skoda Fabia buyer

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I have test driven a Fabia Colour Edition this morning and like it enough to consider buying, especially as the second hand market seems really inflated currently for obvious reasons. When discussing with the salesperson after he mentioned the £1000 off and reduced price for two services if I took the finance deal. which he said I could cancel after about 3 months. Having read other comments on this site I'm presuming this is a no brainer compared to paying full price with cash?

So my questions are:

1) Can you negotiate on price or freebies at all if paying cash or taking their Finance deal? I  got the impression they are selling so many of the new Fabias they don't need to offer further incentives. Is it even worth asking for further incentives on a brand new model and/or going to add another Skoda dealer to get a better deal?

2) is their Finance deal the best way to go (assuming you then cancel)?

When leaving I asked him about the lead in time and he confirmed it would be 10-14 weeks but if I left it much longer it might be considerably longer and was not sure how much of a sales ploy this might be (the guy seemed OK overall, and he did not provide this info until I asked him about the demand for the new Fabia).

I have had my Mazda 3 for about 9 years and remember buying it from the Mazda showroom was a lengthy ordeal so would appreciate any tips from more experienced Skoda drivers.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

Hopefully someone can help you.

You can pay off well before the 3 months and keep the incentives / goodies.    The salesperson does not want you to though.

Someone here in the know can explain that.

As above plus negotiations regarding options or price has no relevance to how you pay.

BTW it won't be long before sites such as drivethedeal have the new Fabia available and then you can see what price you should be paying!

Deals can be hard to find in the launch period of a new model.

But search hard, use sites like Carwow and some of the brokers.  Even if you only save few hundred pounds, it is better than no extra discount.

Great thanks folks. I had read somewhere (done so much research I can't remember where) that someone suggested the rules had been changed so that you did have to now pay 3 months but elsewhere others suggest making the call pretty much straight after, which obviously makes the most sense. Having done some further research I have decided to hang fire so that I can explore the options mentioned in the responses as good deals are obviously harder to find in a launch period as stated.

I'm in no hurry so will bide my time. Thanks for the responses and suggestions re paying off, Drivethedeal, Carwow, brokers etc (I have actually looked into this last option since my post) as saving a few hundred sounds good to me! I shall look into all the options and am not now fixed on getting it brand new.

Cheers,

Paul.

Every car brand new is suffering awful build times, some quote over a year now from order, other brands are closing their books to new orders for certain models, production lines halted, dealers cancelling new orders unless in production line.  If they are quoting 12-14 weeks that is very good.  I can easily  believe this will go alot longer once Skoda start getting the order books filled up.

Buying a new car a minefield for delivery.  I have been thinking of a couple of other options of brand (been waiting for the Monte Carlo, but not sure on it yet, not totally sold on the look), and people had cars on order since last June with no confirmed delivery date.

I am going to test drive a Colour edition the weekend to actually see the car in the flesh.
