Thinking of buying a Yeti

..another +1 for getting Yeti.

Had mine for 4 years now but been looking to change it. After "testing" many small SUV's the only one I think I like is the new Toyota Yaris Cross, (I want an auto), but only available new and currently a 22 week waiting list! I have also considered / tried a Vitara (no auto option on newer cars), Mazda CX30, (best interior of the bunch, but being non turbo feels very "flat"),VW T-Roc, (cheap interior), Audi Q2, (cheap interior and rather pricy for the spec), but none come close to the Yeti IMHO.

If they still made them it would be a no brainer to get another one, only problem is the "silly" prices that are being asked at the mo. (pre pandemic WBAC was offering £10.5k for mine, last weeks figure was £17k which is only £250 short of what I paid for it!...crazy!!).

..good luck with your purchase....

Worth looking at the new 2022 model VW T-Roc when available which should be in the next couple of weeks. Much improved interior and is probably closest thing to a Yeti. VW T-Cross is downgraded because of poor interior fittings, though I wonder if VW will upgrade it soon like the T-Roc and new Taigo. VW have come under an avalanche of criticism for the poor interiors of their smaller Crossovers and now seem to have got the message and are upgrading with Mk2 models.

Thanks for you input Patman.

why has the price of second hand cars gone up so much.

Because of the supply shortage of new cars caused by the problem obtaining computer chips.

That’s for the info

It was also exacerbated by the Covid crisis when people were less willing to travel on public transport so bought second hand cars to get around in.

Do they make them as a 4x4?

If so then it would be the ideal for my use over the next few years.

A remap absolutely transformed by 108hp Yeti, supposedly 184hp, I reckon its the standard 170 VAG map. I cant believe that the same engine without a different turbo, exhaust, injectors etc could produce so much more torque & power.

Hi there, I’m due to buy a 1.2 Monte Carlo on Friday and I have been looking at remaps. Can I ask what remap you obtained and where from? All the ones I see appear to top out at 138hp.
also, does anyone know if the Monte Carlo’s didn’t have a sunglasses holder in the roof? The one I looked at didn’t seem to….or it could just be faulty.

cheers

Best get the car and see that all is well first and you have no issues.

Be sure the servicing is up to date, good air filter and plugs fitted etc.

If the 1.2 TSI with a stage 1 remap did actually get 138 bhp that would be pretty good.

That will be on E5 Super Unleaded probably so 99 ron, or maybe 97 ron.

Is the Tuners chart showing that as being on 98 ron which you can not buy in the UK.

?

What do they show for 95 ron?

Not relevant as mine is a 2.0 TDi.

It was actually through awesome gti that I saw the one that I’m referring to, think it was the oem+ one. Now I check, apr is showing 133 on 95ron.

Ah ok, I just assumed the 108hp was from the 1.2

@HightowerDL

Is this a 1.2 TSI with a DSG that you are getting?

Best see that all is well with the DSG and that there are good tyres fitted before going for a remap.

Yeah it is. New brakes, discs and tyres earlier this year so I’m reasonably happy. What I’ve not seen before though (on awesome gti) is that there’s a tune for the gearbox as well…..I’m not a speed freak, and I absolutely want to make sure me and mine are safe, but a little bit more than 108hp would be nice to have. On my extended test drive it was a little sluggish/hesitant under throttle, but I’ve also seen add ons to speed up the throttle response so they could be an option too

If sluggish / hesitant under throttle then consider that all is not well.

It is a revvy engine and inclined to spin the wheels away from junctions, so well serviced and issue free is important before any remapping.

?

How many miles on the car and when were the spark plugs changed?

The DQ200 DSG's from 2013-2015 might be part of the Service Campaign '34H5' which was a Software Update.

So you check if it was one that should have had that and it was done.

Remapping an engine and a DQ200 DSG is fair enough but buying a used one you really want a valid warranty until you know you bought a good one and not invalidating the warranty if the car comes with one, or it is bought from a trader or dealer you have comeback on.

It’s a 66plate with just over 50k with fsh (I’ve not seen that myself yet)….no idea about the plugs, I’ll be asking that question tomorrow.

I did try to get the wheels spinning but even in sport mode it just contained the traction…..which I thought was a positive!

The Full Service History should be a full history of the servicing then.

Just showing Minor / interim & Major Services or Oil & Inspection services and Extended scope is not a Full History.

Showing when the Brake Fluid was changed, Pollen filter, Air Filter, Spark plugs changed and when is a FSH.

Then any warranty work or Service Campaign work done like '34H5'.

EDIT.

This is not relevant with a 66 plate Yeti.

The spark plugs were changed in Jan last year when the car was 10k miles ‘younger’
