Replacing vRS front pads

Featured Replies

Hi. I have bought a Fabia vRS (I used to have a Clio 182 but a 70 mile round trip to work was killing me on fuel) but the front pads need replacing. The previous owner had Ferodo pads fitted but I wondered if there was a guide or if someone can give me any tips for doing this.

I assume all I need to do is remove the 2 bolts holding the piston in place and some how remove the metal clip that is at the top and bottom of the pads? Then I guess the pads will just slide out? The piston should wind back in too if I turn it clockwise?

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,

Geoff

Pretty much as you describe.

The spring clip is easy, flat bladed screwdriver does the job very well :)

As for the winding back of the piston, either push it back (the handle from a trolley jack will do it, just push very hard) or better yet, go to Halfrauds or your local motor factor and pay £15 for a calliper wind back tool (which you will need if you ever want to do the rears as they do need to be wound whereas the fronts just push).

Thanks. Where is the best point to prise the metal clips off from? The middle of them or on each side, if you see what I mean

Just put the flat bladed screw driver under one end and gently prise it out. Once you have one end out the other will just lift out with no effort (or if you use too much pressure it will spring out, hit you in the face and scar you for life :D;) )

Getting it out is usually easier then getting it in

I can relate to that!! :naughty:

Ill look forward to doing it this weekend then

It's not hard it's just a fiddle

Dont foreget to take the lid off the brake fluid resevoir and put some rags round it, makes winding the piston back easier.

Just thought i'd point out that the Fabia brake caliper is different to the Octavia one that Tavia Jon is thinking of. There is no outer spring clip.

Just undo the bottom 13mm bolt, swing the caliper up and slide it off the top slider. Push the piston back with a G clamp or larger pair of water pump pliers.

Mine appers to have a metal clip at the top and bottom of the pad, unless that is because it has Ferodo pads in?

Those do aswell, its just an anti rattle/seize shim.

Hey, while you've got the calipers off, I'd recommend slapping some Octy vRS brakes on there instead... go on, you know it makes sense :D

Well I was going to go for 312mm brakes but Im going to wait until the discs need replacing until doing anything else.
