Rust on Roof 2018 Octavia

Featured Replies

I have my car booked in for a roof respray, silver colour, because of rust the size of thumb print.  Should I be worried about how the colour will look in comparison to the rest of the car and should I get it treated once the roof is resprayed.

I did get the car detailed 2 years ago.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Welcome.

I take it you are using someplace with the best of reputation and reviews.

The fully qualified and professional painter that you are employing will be the best to advise you.

They should have all the gear and more than ideas to give better than a factory finish that matches the rest of the car.  (The factory finish has rust on the roof!)

PS

Have you asked the detailer you used 2 years ago who they would recommend to do the rust removal and repainting?

?

Why is there rust, was the roof damaged?

Thanks very much for responding,  I bought the car from a main dealer 2 years ago and I didn't spot the rust then. The previous owner lived by the sea so maybe that explains why there is rust on the roof.

The main dealer recommended the body work business that they use, so that's who i have got to do the respraying and sealing, i think that's the term that was used.

Hoping that they will do a good job.

Thanks again roottoot.

Maybe post a picture, like the one the dealership employee should have taken.

?

Are they talking about treating the rust, painting / lacquering and then applying some paint protection?

Or is this about corrosion at a seam / weld on the car and the sealer applied at the factory?

If the rust / corrosion was there 2 years ago the detailer should have spotted rust or any issue with the damage at a seam and sealer.

Unless a visually impaired detailer.

It should be a good job, but not necessarily one you should be paying for.

**Living by the sea does not explain it.    Bird Poo on the roof might, but that would be since the car was detailed 2 years ago. **

The issue that others had with seam sealer and a fault at the factory does go towards explaining the rust.

Not that a Dealership employee might want to mention that as obviously it will be something they never heard of.

A Paint Defect even out of the paint warranty should be reported to an Approved Repairer who should have a Warranty Manager or a grown up look at the area,

then get pictures and then deal with the Warranty Provider.   As per the T&C's in the Warranty.

It is not the Corrosion Warranty as the panel has not a hole, but it is a known issue, and it is Skoda CZ and UK that know.

If you are happy enough to pay and not bother with any hassle with Skoda who will knock back your claim then fine.

The Bodyshop will have staff that know if they have had to do a repair in the same area before and if that was Warranty Work,

Dealership car preparation for a sales car or just customer paid for work.
