Krofs MK3 vRS project log

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

Been an octy fan for a while now. Always wanted a vRS, so I treated myself with a black 2015 MK3 Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI DSG combi. Had it for a few months and love it. It is fun to drive and remains useful as a daily driver.

It woke a car guy in me, so out of fun and something to do I am starting a project log.

There have been a few mods already done by the previous owner:

- Vogtland lowering springs (45mm front and rear),

- MTM chip tunning from 184hp to 220hp,

- carbon taped the front chrome grill frame,

- debadged Škoda and Octavia badges.

The dealer put it on 18" Xtreme replica rims in anthracite and the more I look at them the more I like how it looks. Maybe will invest in new rims down the line but its not a priority atm.

So far I put the vRS on GOODYEAR Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. Not really a mod but it added to performance. They hold the road like crazy 🤙

Considering its a TDI, with the chip tunning already done, there isnt much I can do that would be reasonable to give it more power. Rather I will improve handling to optimise the 220hp it has. Also I will invest in "exterior asthetics" . I aready love how it handles and feels with the lowered suspension. Its like driving on rails. It could use more power in some corners, actually. Its very balanced.

What mods I am planing to do in the next few monthd/years:

- whiteline rear anti roll bar,
- front strut bar,
- dogbone powerflex,
- H&R spacers 15mm front 20mm rear,

- ATE discs,

- gloss black grill frame,
- gloss black emblems,
- maxton gloss black front splitter,
- reiger gloss black diffuser,
- maxton gloss black spoiler lip.

I think that list kind of concludes the "useful clean looking daily driver that can safely transport kids but is also fun on back roads" setup. Not too extreme and "in your face" but can performe, setup.

Unfortunately all mods and non essential car spendings will be done when the budget allows it.

Cheers 😁

Love it! Very clean. I love black cars but I couldn't keep up with the maintenance to keep them looking right. The mods list is good though, I looked at the Reiger gloss black rear diffuser but I couldn't justify the cost.

I also went to Goodyears recently. Had them on previous cars and suitably impressed considering the price differences to Michelins.

Thank you! Yeah, got into car detailing after i got it so i can keep the rs clean and shiny, but it stays like that for a day or two at most haha. Got the HR spacers, 15mm front and 20mm rear. Cant wait to put those on in the next week or so when i take the car to change discs. Was looking at the ATE power discs.

The goodys are awesome and i am happy that i got them. They hold like crazy on dry or wet.

As my missus would say, gives you something to do!

I've learnt alot over the years but I still haven't gone far enough. I'd like to have a car that properly beads. For a full detail I have Autoglyms 3 stage Polar system, Bilton Hamber autowheel, Autostart Tardis for tar removal, etc. I've yet to claybar the VRS although I've just bought a fresh tin of Collinite 476s to give it a bit of shine.

I want to invest in a proper machine polisher and bring it up better but that's a whole 'nother world of pads, polishes and compounds.

Your missus isnt wrong haha :D

Love the Bilt-Hamber products. They do work and are really budget friendly. I have the auto-wash, Surfex HD, cleanser polish, korrosol and the clay bar. I am still figuring out/optimising the meintenance wash and enjoying the process. I find washing my car therapeutic. Used the clay for the first time on my hood a few washes ago and I could feel the difference. I do want to give the vRS to a pro polisher tho. It does have alot of swirls that show on the black paint and probably wont go away with hand polishing or glazes. I really want that deep-wet-black-mirror look :)

New mods! Finally :D
Had some extra time and money (not really 😢) and got an appointment with my mechanic. We changed all four discs and while at it put the spacers on. The old discs became terrible. Probably still the OG ones. So I got the ATEs. Was thinking about the ATE PowerDiscs but at the end got the full ones (have the 340mm fronts and the biggest powerdiscs are 312mm anyway).

The spacers are H&R, 15mm in the front, 20mm in the rear.  Love how they complite the look of the car. It has a more aggressive stance and looks now. Also, I' ve noticed that it somehow smoothened the ride. Not softened, but smoothened. I can still feel the harder and lower suspension, but it handles holes and bumps better. It feels like the tires were thicker and wider and when driving overer sharp bumps, the same bumps now feel rounder.  Hard to explain but i like the feel and feedback. The car overall feels and look thick. And I do like thick 😛

Next on the mods list are probably the gloss black grill frame, black badges and the whiteline rear ARB :)

Liking the rear with the spacers but I always think 15mm at the front looks too much... I'm thinking 12mm front and 20mm rear.

Discs look great, mine are also knackered and need changing. Definitely freshens up the look and probably brakes better?

Changed the Skoda emblems with gloss black one. Couldnt justify ordering the OG skoda emblems for 45 eur a piece so i got no brand emblems, but they dont stick that well to the car. From far it looks ok but up close you can see how they deviate a bit (will probably spend the 90e when te OCD wins). Will as well swap the front and rear vRS badges in the future. Also ordered the glossy grill frame to change the "mat carbon tapped chrom" frame and the plexiclick plate mounts. Going for that clean stealth look.

I do like the wider stance with the spacers. But i think the 19" rims would fill the front arches better and would flush the wheels with the sides. With the 18" it does look like the wheels are maybe sticking a bit too far out yes. Still, prefer it over no spacers. It dose look more aggresive and sporty IMO.

The brakes feel alot better and are more resposive. Also the heat when pushing the car and braking hard doesnt effect the discs as it did on the old ones.

It has been a while since i have posted and did a few things to the vRS in the meantime:

-Changed the chrome mat carbon fiber tape wraped grill frame with a gloss black one. Its a 5 minite job after a 2 hour hustle of removing the burned in original grill without damaging the car paint. At the end, the easiest way was to snap the loops that hook to the car with a pair of pliers from the inside.

-Plexiclick holders for the plates. Frameless plates realy do clean up the look of the car.

-Gloss black front splitter. Was originali thinking about the Maxton V1 but got the V4 as a gift (later found out its a V2 for the mk3.5 but it fits great). I was scared it would look to riced but i actually like how agressive and lower it looks now.

Next on the list:

- Black front and rear vRS badges for that blacked out look

- Maxton side skirts. I think it will connect the more aggressive front with the rest of the car nicely

- Maxton spoiler cap and V2 rear diffuser

Future ideas and wishes:

- Tinted windows

- 19" Tomason tn25 in mattgraphite or similar rims

- Wind deflectors?

- Black exhaust tips (although i like the contrast of the chrome for once and with black badges it may look good)

- Quattro and 2.5 TFSI swap (i wishs 🥲)

Also, noticed that the vogtland springs are getting old, rusty and squeaky so i am looking into overhauling the suspension. Was thinking about Eibach sportline springs or even the Eibach/Bilstein B12 sportline kit or maybe Eibach PRO-STREET-S for that extra height adjustability. Anyone has any other suggestions?

And to compliment the suspension a thicker RARB and maybe front strut bar.
