New vw Engine

Featured Replies

Has anyone heard about the new 1.4 engine vw are launcing soon in the golf

1400cc supercharge with a turbo 170hp giving the same grunt as 2.3v5 with over 40mpg.

The supercharger kicks in from idle upto about 3k then the Turbo takes over after that giving better performance than 20v rs and near diesel economy.

Havent a clue how this works but it sound great.

Fabia vrs potentially maybe ????

Without starting a flamewar 40MPG isn't that great, and with both a turbo and supercharger on there that means a lot more parts to go funny. I wouldn't be liking the idea of running one out of warrenty.

It does more than the mini.

Sounds fantastic to me. Certainly worth a look after a couple of years once the teething troubles have been ironed out.

Wonder what they can do with a 1.6 or bigger lump ?

They've got a nice new 2.0sdi going into the golf gt as well - 170 bhp and something like 46mpg combined. I'd like one of them!

The 2.0 TDi (170) is the same engine as what is going into the Octavia vRS so nothing new there.

Also the 1.4 TSi will appear in the Touran before the Golf GT in a lower 140 bhp output.

Apparently a lot of manufacturers are looking into smaller engines. It's all to do with new emissions regulations which take into account the average level of emisssions across the whole range of models produced by that manufacturer.

You may have seen VW's 3 wheel concept and BMW's Carver style 3 wheeler. Both run on tiny engines thus reducing the average emissions across the board.

Cheaper on tax etc aswell.

Not sure what you mean by "nothing new"!!?!?!?!

It'll be a "new" diesel version of the octy vrs and a "new" version of the golf gt.

The "new" leon is also getting the 170bhp diesel engine IIRC.

By using "new" I assume that most people are referring to the fact that it represents a previosuly unavailable specification.

The diesel unit is certainly pretty exciting IMO.
