Alloy Wheels Stuck

Got a CitiGo with alloy wheels. Came to take one of the front ones off today (changing discs and pads), but I cannot break the stiction between the alloy wheel and the disc hub.  Any ideas would be welcome.

More carefully than removing the rears, but a thump from behind with the bolts loosened is required. 

 

With the rears / drums, Normally someone tries loosening the bolts a bit with the car on the ground and giving the car a good shake.

There is Lifting the car hand giving the wheel/ tyre a hard kick / malleting.

Some use a big bit of wood and whack that.

Turn the entertainment OFF. Loosen wheel bolts on affected bolts one turn. Drive slowly until you hear a rumble from the loosened wheels. Tighten bolts and return home. Remove now loose bolts and wheels. Do other work. Now apply Copaslip or lithium grease to mating faces before refitting wheels.

Did what you said, Ken, this morning. Worked a treat. Both wheels became unstuck. Thanks.

Problem then became loosening the single screw holding the disc on, also the 2 sliders, they are very tight. Did the wife’s CitiGo and they were fine, but I couldn’t move these, so I just cleaned up the mating faces, and it the wheel back. On the near side these 3 threaded items loosened ok. Difficult when one is kneeling/lying on a tarpoliun. The job for both sides of the car will now go to my local mechanic who is just 100 yards away.

Enjoyed the experience, and thank you to all with suggestions.

The single bolt holding the front disc on is an M6x16 size with a T30 torx countersunk head.

 

If it's tight, it is better to use a Torx Plus rather than just a Torx screwdriver/bit, and possibly in combination with an impact screwdriver.

 

The Torx Plus design allows for about 20% more torque to be applied before the bolt head strips.

Put the torx screwdriver / socket on the screw and hit it with a hammer a few times (if you don’t have an impact driver) as this should break the rust that’s holding it tight.

Any suggestions re the slider pins???

Ok, I will use the extendable bar I use to loosen wheel nuts. I will give it a go, if I can get the drivers side bits undone I am plain sailing cause I know the near side will loosen.

Don't forget you are the other side of the slider pin so the direction to loosen is reversed. 🤔

 

Have seen someone break their tool bit trying to undo the wrong way.

Got it, thanks for the reminder

Maybe if your mechanic is close by, leave removing these calliper guide pins/bolts to him as it sort of might be that your car has no calliper carrier bracket and so the callipers bolt directly onto the "hub bracket" - and stripping the threads in them can be quite easy, so best avoided if you can.

Saturday afternoon, 7th May, I took drivers side wheel off to have another go. The 2 slider pins released easy this time.....I did spray some Silicon grease which must have helped. However the screw holding the brake disc on still would not budge, even though I found my impact driver (not used that for what must 40 years).  

The discs and pads are not too bad, similar to the other citigo and they really didnt need changing either. Will leave it to the end of summer and get it done.

I might take the wheels off the front and clean/grease the slider pins both sides......keep them free moving.

You can always drill the head of the screw to the extent that you can get the disk off. Normally a pair of self grips will turn the screw as the heat destroys the bond. Fit new screw with new disk.
