Only 5Live on my DAB

Featured Replies

And even that's not working.

I believe I have a Columbus unit. FM works just fine but it won't pick up any DAB stations despite multiple scans in a few locations.

FTR, I have searched but didn't find an answer.

Quite a few people have this problem due to poorly routed dashcam cables.

Could this be a possibility?

Haven't sorted my dashcam over yet

My Superb Mk 111 MY16 is a wonderful car but the DAB reception has been pretty awful since my acquisition 6 years ago. I have a dashcam which has been hard wired to the fusebox. This last week I have cracked the problem.  My original thought was that the dash cam USB feed in wire needed a ferrite core clip-on filter.  I fitted one and there was a marginal improvement. Then I had a simple inspirational moment.  In the rear centre console I had a USB adapter in the cigarette lighter socket. It was a double one.  On a recent journey I simply pulled it out and DAB magically worked perfectly!  I have since bought a much more expensive adapter.  A single USB one.  The make is Scosche.  I bought it from Halfords.  Using that adapter my DAB reception remains good.  So the fault was a cheapo adapter.

Whilst I have now installed my dashcam (not hardwired just yet) there is no difference, still just 5Live gets tuned and then says no signal.

Has to be an explanation for this even if it's just the DAB in Skodas is crap.

My thoughts exactly until I went somewhere local that I know has good reception & re-tuned the stations, its since been faultless.

Do you know whether the rear screen glass has been replaced or if there's been any work done to the rear? You can find the rear antenna amplifier unit in the upper rear plastic trim and the solder points to the antenna elements in the glass.

There was a similar issue posted before, so it may just be a disconnected/loose amp.

As far as I can make out no bodywork has been carried out at all. I'll be fitting a rear dash cam sometime during the summer so will be pulling off panels then and will have a good root around and follow up.

Blimey, over a year I first posted about this.

Anyway, it's still an issue, no DAB.

That said, I have a few advantages on my side now, namely VCDS and more free time not that changes have been made at work.

1 Fault Found:
0013 - Antenna Amplifier 1 for Digital Radio
          B1270 13 [009] - Open Circuit

                    Voltage terminal 30: 14.4 V
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Antenna current: 0 mA
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Connection between radio and antenna amplifier: Open circuit
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Connection between antenna amplifier and antenna: Not available
Status of digital radio antenna 1-DAB_Bit_Error_Rate_FIC: 16.777215
Status of digital radio antenna 1-DAB_Bit_Error_Rate_MSC: 16.777215

So, based upon the scan and the post above, all points to the antenna amp not being connected.

Someone want to tell me where it is please? Extra fake internet points if pictures are included 😆

Well, turns out this was quite an easy fix. I'm kicking myself for not checking previously.

The ruddy DAB black fakra cable was unplugged at the back of the MIB unit. Plugged it in and all is well.
