Watching the vids I'm trying to see if he did manage to eject or not...

Either he ejected literally just before the plane crashed (would his chute have had a chance to open?!), or, erm, he was in there for the ride...

He did eject and modern ejection seats are designed to work at zero altitute and zero speed so he should have made it.

He did eject - you can see it from the cockpit video, his zero-zero ejection seat would save him even from an incident like that

Trying a split-S from that altitude is absolutely insane though :eek: (looks spectacular when you pull it off but can go horribly wrong)
