Thick question over personalisation

Featured Replies

Hi All, got the car today (pics to follow). I've tried having a play with the two keys and setting  up personalisation to each key like seating, mirrors, lights radio etc.... i just cant get it to work. in fact i cant even find the personalisation menu. I've gone into the car icon on the home screen then settings but theres no personalisation menu there. This is leading me to perhaps the keys havent been assigned to a user yet?

I tried this and i got to the stage of pressing the unlock button on both keys. It find both keys then loads then comes back sayin unable to contact skoda? i try again and it then says key already assigned to this vehicle? im so lost and confused right now.

Has anyone got a videos that may just help me out a little

TIA

This might shed some light on the limitations of personalisation, which AFAIUI was overhauled for MY21/MIB3, to the extent that the option is now just called 'Third Key'.

Personalisation of each key, from my experience is based upon the key that last locks, but I'm not even sure of that anymore. We now just choose the corresponding profile when we open the car.

If you're talking about assigning Primary and Secondary Keys, I found this a little troublesome, but mainly because the steps took forever, I am guessing because we have a very weak GSM signal, but I did get there in the end following the process in the manual and on-screen.

Ah cool so it might be that we settle for getting in the car and selecting profile which has all the settings save to that? i need to work out how to that as when i stored the seat settings i got a beep but nothing to save it to a key or prifile

My interpretation of all that I had read, and from the manual was that the current profile is linked to the key that locks the car, and my testing at the time confirmed that. And for us all the settings that really matter, such as driver's seat position are stored in the profile. For whatever reason, I guess just inconsistency of key use, sometimes neither of our keys loads the expected profile. For her it's less of a problem, I'm tall, she's much shorter so can get in and select her profile. I can't get in with her seat position so reach in and pick my profile, at which point the seat moves. Or, the unlock with my key will select my profile and all is well. What else you can associate with a profile I am not sure about, she uses the car so infrequently that it's not really an issue, but the thread I linked to suggests that it might be quite limited.

Make seat changes with the appropriate profile loaded, then lock with the key for that person (if you're planning to use different keys), and that should stick, at least to the profile.

It's certainly not a thick question. Like Simon68, I eventually got the system to work but it wasn't intuative - and I've been in IT for over 30years!

Biggest difference between personilaisation I found on MIB3 to MIB2 was the necessity to set up each key holder with a Skoda Connect profile. Total pain in the butt, but eventually the system does work.

That said I drive the facelifted MY21 rather than the latest MY22 car so there may be other differences now. I don't know if there' s a difference between todays '3rd key' and the 'personalisation' option on my car but it all works as it should - the car will configure itself according to which key is used to open the door.

I’m a fairly technically competent person but I had exactly the same problem in the wife’s new Arona. Setting up the profiles proved impossible. A profile created in app signed info in the car but won’t let me use that profile as it wants a pin that I’ve set but car doesn’t recognise. Gave up when the servers for the thing went down for says.

I was hoping it would be easier for the Kodiaq when that comes but sounds like it won’t be.

The back end is the same across Seat, Skoda and VW, and the infotainment units etc. are all the same too - the UI is just skinned differently in each. So, unfortunately, the same problems exist across all of them too.

My solution is to not let the wife drive my car and only use the one key 😎.

Yeah I get that. My hope was only because I believe seat are using the newer VW software in their facelifts whereas the Kodiaq is still the older VW software as far as I know.

Personalisation is a pain in the backside. My wife uses the car most of the time using her key. It is the only car we have and every so often I am allowed to drive it! So I use my key but on one occasion it refused to recognise me because I had not used the car and had to reverify my credentials I.e. email address and password. All in the name of security. As if I have time for that. I am rather fed up of companies telling me what my security options are or making assumptions about our domestic arrangements! If I used the car more often it would not be a problem but really, why should I have my life intruded into because some clown thinks it is a good idea?

Rant over but my experience of Skoda is dropping fast and the dealer too through no fault of the wonderful staff I should add.

Did you opt for personalise / 3rd key option?

Not sure! We have 2 keys and car recognises the key which is linked to a specific user. Welcome Mandy or Welcome Me. Works fine provided each user has their own Skoda Connect portal account which assumes each user had their own email address blah, blah  blah.

The idea in theory is fine but execution lousy. Synchronisation failed messages when setting up user when in fact the user was set up. I do not wish to trouble anyone further since we have tamed the system but it is awful and our dealer were struggling with it too!
