Cruise Control Retrofit problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm having some issues retrofitting cruise control to my car I've fitted the stalk as I read online all I needed was a specific Steering Wheel control module, this being either Highline or Midline and I double checked this against the ROSSTECH list and mine came up as midline but I'm having some problems as I had fitted the part and the car recognised that it was incorrectly coded so I coded it correctly to the option 4 so it knew it was 'Board computer with Cruise Control system (CCS)' and after doing so it removed the error code and I had no fault codes.

Now going further it still didn't work after this and I did some further investigating and found I needed to enable this feature in the engine control module using the 'Coding 2' option but the problem I've got is that my option in VCDS is greyed out as if the control module doesn't support this which is really confusing, my Steering Control Module is 1K0-953-549-AF and from looking on Rosstech (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions) mine is midline which is all I need, I've checked my clutch and brake pedals they appear to already have the wiring needed to tell the car when I depress either or so not sure what to make of the problem.

Any help really appreciated :)

Bump, I know it's probably simple but I just need some guidance any help appreciated :)

Hi,

If coding box is greyed out, your setting for VDCS are wrong, ie your workshop and country need to be set. mine is workshop code is 12345 and country is 123, try this and report back.

Hope this helps,

Hey @Harry-vRS, I currently have the exact same situation, even the same ECU on my 06 Octavia vRS TFSI. My Coding II is greyed out too.

I tried @Aston_Bodger's fix but that didn't do anything.

Did you ever get it fixed?

Thanks

@OllieVRS, Is your cable genuine?, if so you should be able to change dealer code and country code, that's all mine needed.

Hope this helps,

Hi Trevor, thanks for the reply.

I changed the dealer code and country code, but it didn't seem to affect anything.

I'm actually able to enable Cruise Control via Coding -> Long Coding -> 06, then selecting Bit 1. The coding is accepted, but then I get an error code in Engine talking about DTC Memory.

I looked up the 005699 code on Ross-Tech's site and it has a special note regarding my engine, 'When found in 2.0l TFSI (AXX/BPY/BWA etc.), check Steering Wheel Electronics for Cruise Control related Fault Codes and general Cruise Control Functionality' which led me to the code in the Steering module in the photo below, 00895.

I now believe the TOPRAN branded cruise control stalk I bought is faulty. I'll try get a less-crappy brand one and see if that works.

Hi OllieVRS,

It could be faulty, mine was genuine when I did mine about 8 years ago.
