Things you wish you’d ordered with your Kodiaq!

Featured Replies

Had the kodiaq since Friday and absolutely loving it. It’s a joy to ride in and feels like a pillowy soft ride. The only cars I’ve been in that feels as nice are the xc90 and a Q7 which are even more refined. Obviously the xc90 also has better seats etc.

However there are two things I’m very much kicking myself about not adding on. I don’t miss the sunroof from my Karoq it’s a nice to have but not for the money and I think the sportline styling sort of suits the darker moodier Audi like interior. I don’t miss ACC or Lane assist. I do miss blind spot monitoring but that wasn’t an option due to chip shortages.

However the two things I’m kicking myself for is rear blinds and park assist. The rear blinds would just be great for the kids and whilst I can sort this with some carshades or equivalent I still wish I’d just paid the little more for the family pack as they are really smart. I’d never have even thought about park assist but wife’s new Arona has it and I’ve been using it a lot. A couple of car parks I use have tight spaces and oddly shaped lanes so reversing in is best way. The park assist on the Arona is vastly better for this than the system I had on a golf back in the day as it just does it at normal pace without fuss. It does like straightening up when really it’s not necessary as it’s already straight but I can just cancel it then. The kodiaq reversing camera is absolutely ace but I’ve already wrestled with it into a couple of very tight spots already. Not an issue but for what it cost I wish I’d put park assist on just for those odd occasions.

Anyone else got stuff they wish they had added?

I'd have quite happily had the blind spot / reverse cross traffic stuff as I had them on my previous Edition - but I wasn't going to pay through the nose for them. Can't believe the vRS doesn't come with them to be honest.

I also had the 360 cameras last time, but used them less and less as I got used to the size of the thing. You may find the same with regards to the park assist as you get used to yours.

Previously had a near fully loaded Octavia so knew what I liked and disliked and ordered the Kodiaq with exactly what I wanted, one of which was Park Assist. And it's something I've never ever regretted.

For parallel street  parking it's just brilliant - so easy, it causes me no stress whatsoever manouvering in to the tightest of spaces - works 1st time everytime.  But if you're talking about parking at 90 degrees in to a bay then that's a different kettle of fish. I find it much quicker to drive or reverse the car in myself.  Trick is you really need to leave enough space for the system to work but our supermarket car park lanes just aren't wide enough. So it's often a case of the system finding a space, reverse, fwd, reverse, fwd, and then reverse in to it. TBH.  If car parks are your only concern, then you're not missing anything.  It may work in an Arona but remeber, the Kodiaq is a much larger car.

Yeah it’s a mix of bay and parallel parking. It’s not an issue. I’ve never had it before, apart from an old golf where I never used it because it was useless. But it’s just a nice system to have for those tight spaces or whatever. I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary it’s just having used it, it’s better than it used to be and for not much extra cost would have been worth it.

To be fair, it's almost worth it for the extra sensors on the sides, even if you never use the automated parking.

I agree. It used to be something you'd use as a one off 'circus trick' but was cumbersome in use. I wouldn't be bothered with all the steps I had to go thru on older VW or Fords. Even with a manual gearbox, it takes a wee bit of effort to control the speed. But in an large automatic where it's not easy to judge the corners of the car, the current system is so simple it's untrue. push a button on the console, stick the car in reverse and you can parallel park perfectly in to the tightest of spaces with your eyes closed. ( not that I recommend that of course ). It was the first option box I ticked.

Heated rear seats. Never thought we'd still have the Kodiaq beyond the kids growing out of their car seats. Winding the kids up in the winter as their mum and I turn on the front heated seats is wearing a little thin 😂

Wrong! Never gets old...

Told 'em they can have heated seats in the back when they're old enough to buy their own car. Took them a while to realise that they won't be in the back at that point...

Wow a lot of std. equipment missing due to chip shortages . That's unfortunate.

I regret not adding Isofix on the front seat and 3rd zone climate control options.

Although I don't get to use it much, the sleep pack is a hit with my kid - window blinds , blankets & cool headrests. The things she shows off to her friends about :) .

Nothing to do with chip shortages - in the UK, the vRS does not come with the cross-traffic / blind spot stuff as standard. Or, at least, it didn't at launch which is when I ordered it. No idea if that's changed now (probably not - if you want all the toys, you get the L&K... if you want the engine, you get the vRS).

The L&K doesn’t have blind spot or side assist either and nor can you add it. These have been pulled from all VAG cars by the start of this year ish. No idea whether it was in at launch but I’m surprised it wasn’t a vRS thing - are you sure it wasn’t pulled due to the chips?

All of these make me very happy I went options mad... Let's hope they built it last week 🤣

It did at launch. I'm going from the 'normal' spec from the 1 July 2021 brochure (i.e. the first one for the facelift models) and ignoring the effects of chip shortages - they've skewed the specs out of all recognition.

(edit: and as you can see, the vRS never had it in the first place)

does the sportline have heated front seats as standard as just assumed that it has now wondering if had to add only option I added was the virtual cockpit which if I new they where changing from dials to digital cluster I  wouldn't have bothered adding just thought old dash with dials was dated so went with virtual cockpit.

Yes heated front seats are standard on Sportline.

11 years ago I forked out for rear door blinds and park assist on a Superb estate, which I kept for 6 years.

And soon regretted it £££££

Never used them after playing a few times. Just not an everyday tool for me.

Now, I love my Virtual Cockpit and DCC.

Flip-flop the settings on every journey to suit the road and my mood.

Along with mandatory hot seats, wheel and screen.

Oh, I also love my basic cruise control. Possibly the most used switch in the car.  ACC doesn’t cut it for me.

I hope I can buy this car from BCA in 2023 as I’ll never get one as good again (VFM).

I'm happy to say nothing.

I love ACC and Lane Assist, so much easier for drives.

I would happily give up heated front seats as never use them, but had no choice as they came as std.

Blinds in the back are great for the kids.

Didn't opt for the virtual cockpit as the "std" one gives me everything I need and nothing I don't.  I still maintain that the virtual cockpit is cheaper for Skoda and soon will be on all cars, no option.

Sometimes I wish I had gone for a towbar as the bike rack would have been easier, but that is only 10% of the time.  The other 90% I think that it looks crap and I can manage with roof racks for the bikes for the £££ saved.

Overall very happy with my choices 7 months on.

If you’d said that a few weeks ago, I think we’d all be incredibly impressed and would be asking for this week’s lottery numbers!

Do the back windows come with a tint on the sportline ?

Yes

Why, has something been announced?

I did say the same about 6 months or so ago irrc.

Apparently basic digital dash now standard instead of analog dash. See post 13 in this thread.

Ahhh I see! :).   Nope, I honestly posted the same months ago (though sadly can't predict the lottery in the same way)

It reminded me of when the first digital watches went on sale.  They commanded a bit of a price premium vs "normal" watches as the tech was new, they had added functionality like playing a tune when the alarm went off!

Didn't take long before they dropped prices quickly.

It stands to reason that there are more moving parts in the "std" dash and replacing it with one that relies on software rather then hardware would be cheaper, and that's before scale economies of having it in every car kick in.

Let the early adopters pay a premium for it, establish the "price", then use that as a justification for a price rise in the next year, when in fact their costs are going down for this particular piece of equipment.

Ventilated seats for the Kodiaq RS weren't available when I ordered but I would've paid every dollar for them.

As I deferred my order to get MY20 options (Ignite wheels, direct TPMS and acoustic glazing), the dealership never told me the previously standard family pack cost $340 which I would've ticked.
