Possibly from the visor flexing when flipped down/up?

Unlikely I’d think, as I always pull it down from the leading edge and push it gently back in the same way.
 

Anyone know if the glass is available as a part or is it the whole visor? 

Looking over on the VWROC forum, a number of MK7 owners have had the same issue.
 

It can be dismantled - thanks to R Learner for the guide here. 
 

So just need to get a bit of 3mm mirror glass cut to 130x70mm and should be quite a simple fix.

In all seriousness, I hope it's an easy fix.

I'd really like to get the Passat extending visor. Should be an easy replacement. Just need to get the part number!

Lol, I was going to mention the same earlier - "the mirror saw something it didn't like, and cracked itself!!!" 😆

Mine looks exactly the same. Only noticed  after some  opportunist  took advantage of an unlocked car door overnight. every cubby door open. I assumed he grabbed the visor looking for  cash or stuff. Will check the guide mentioned.
